The finale of the college football Week 1 slate will kick off at 7:30 PM ET in Tallahassee, Florida, when the SMU Mustangs aim to live up to their role as road favorites against a fellow ACC opponent in the Florida State Seminoles. This standalone ACC matchup will be broadcast on ESPN, with all eyes on Mike Norvell’s ‘Noles.

To get you set for this conference showdown on Labor Day, I’ve put together an SMU vs Florida State Same Game Parlay with odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook. Let’s get right into it, and don’t forget to check our college football picks throughout the week and season for tips and analysis on every FBS contest.

SMU vs Florida State Parlay Pick: SMU Mustangs ML over Florida State Seminoles (-155)

Mike Norvell and the Seminoles did nothing against New Mexico State in Week 0 to make me think this is a significantly improved team. That game was legitimately close throughout despite the ‘Noles laying more than 30 points, as the Aggies converted 10 of 17 third downs and were only outgained by 100 yards.

Maybe the Seminoles have been deliberately vanilla with a “just win” mentality against New Mexico State in an effort to keep their legitimate gameplan close to their chests for this conference matchup against the Mustangs. Perhaps it’s possible, but I have a hard time giving Norvell the benefit of the doubt given the happenings in Tallahassee over the last couple of years. I also have a hard time trusting Ashton Daniels; he’s already thrown a pick after all, continuing the turnover-prone trend we’ve seen throughout his career.

SMU now has film to study FSU’s tendencies, which is a big advantage for the Mustangs in this one. It would be even more advantageous if the Mustangs were able to get constant pressure on Daniels in the backfield, as that is really where his turnover rate spikes. I’m looking specifically for Marques White to make some noise after his 11 TFL and five sacks at UMass last year.

SMU vs FSU Parlay Pick: Yannick Smith (SMU) Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+270)

East Carolina transfer wideout Yannick Smith is a big-bodied receiver who excels in traffic. He finished tied for 34th in contested catches last year per PFF, and his contested-catch rate of nearly 65% was one of the better marks among the top 50. He’s exactly the type of receiver SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings needs, especially in this matchup, as he completely negates the elite size FSU’s secondary possesses with his six-foot-two, 210-pound frame.
