We’ve officially reached the all-star break in the Major League Baseball season. It’s been nearly 4 months since Opening Day and there has been plenty of excitement and chaos across the baseball world to this point. But after an eventful first half of the season, it’s time for the All-Star festivities to begin. The first event of the week is the 2026 MLB Home Run Derby, which features 8 of the best sluggers in baseball meeting at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Let’s preview the Home Run Derby field before getting into my MLB best bets for the event. 2026 MLB Home Run Derby Best Bet: Munetaka Murakami (+550)
Arguably the most exciting player in this Home Run Derby field is Munetaka Murakami, a slugger that needs no introduction for White Sox fans. The Japanese product was in the midst of an extraordinary home run pace for Chicago before an injury sidelined him for nearly 6 weeks. However, he's officially healthy again and just played in a series over the weekend to work out the kinks.
Murakami has 20 home runs in just 60 games played, so he certainly has the power and ability to hit plenty of bombs out of the ballpark in this Home Run Derby. Furthermore, the first baseman also hits from the left side, which should give him a unique edge at Citizens Bank Park. With that in mind, I'll take a shot with the rookie to make a splash on this big stage.
2026 Home Run Derby longshot prediction: Bryce Harper (+850)
While most bettors are likely to turn toward Kyle Schwarber as their Phillies slugger of choice on Monday, there's another hometown hero in this lineup that can't be ignored. Bryce Harper has experience in this event, and he even won it back in 2018 as a member of the Washington Nationals. Harper won that Home Run Derby in his home ballpark, and he's a tad underrated in this spot considering the attention being paid to Schwarber and others.
The lefty is plenty familiar with how to hit big flies in this park, and he's also having one of his best seasons in years from a power perspective — racking up 20 home runs in 97 games played to this point. Ultimately, it's worth taking a shot with the face of the Phillies to bring the trophy home at longer odds.
