Braves vs Rockies Pickswise Expert Predictions

Run Line Pick
ATL Braves -1.5(-130)

The Atlanta Braves went 19-8 in April and will look to stay hot as they open May against the Colorado Rockies. The Braves will send Grant Holmes to the mound on Friday, who is 2-1 with a 3.62 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP through 6 starts. For the Rockies, Jose Quintana will look to build off his last outing as he enters this matchup with a 1-2 record and a 4.91 ERA on the year.

The Braves remain one of the most dangerous lineups in baseball, hitting .271 and averaging 5.5 runs per game. Meanwhile, the Rockies have been respectable at the plate, batting .254 and averaging 4.3 runs per game. As far as pitching goes, the Braves have the more reliable bullpen (3.32 ERA), while the Rockies hold a 3.85 ERA. On top of that, the Braves are hitting .270 against left-handed pitching this season, something the Rockies need to be concerned about with Quintana taking the mound. Quintana’s longest outing this season was 5.1 innings, which happens to be his last start against the Mets.

Even though Holmes has allowed some runs in recent starts, Atlanta holds the advantage both offensively and in the bullpen. If Quintana exists early again, this sets up well for the Braves to take over late. Look for Atlanta to stay disciplined at the plate and take care of business against the Rockies on the road.
