Cleveland Guardians vs Toronto Blue Jays Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 04/25/26

The Toronto Blue Jays are in a bad way in a season where they were supposed to get back to the World Series and finish the story. Their pitching staff suffered some catastrophic injuries in Spring Training and early in the regular season, and now players in their lineup are starting to go down, with Nathan Lukes adding to the list on Friday night. Friday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians was another disaster, as Max Scherzer allowed seven earned runs in 2+ innings to put his team in an early hole that they couldn’t get out of.

A silver lining for Saturday afternoon is that Kevin Gausman will take the mound, one of two bright spots in Toronto’s rotation this season. The Blue Jays ace owns a 2.54 ERA this season and should put his team in a good position to bounce back in the second game of a three-game set. The bad news is that the Guardians counter with one of their best, Joey Cantillo.

Cantillo has been one of the most consistent pitchers in the majors this season. He doesn’t really blow hitters away with elite strikeout stuff, but he’ll go out every game and give you 5-6 innings and only allow a couple of earned runs. With a Guardians bullpen that has some flaws, it’s important for the team to have members of its rotation who can provide that consistency.

It might sound counterproductive to the starting pitchers, but this game could have a real possibility to go over on Saturday. The starters are consistent and solid, but they’ve given up 2-3 earned runs per game in each of their last few starts and usually only go 6 innings at the max. That gives three innings for two of the worst bullpens in the majors to give up the remaining few runs to get us the total. With two offenses that can be explosive, I’ll take those chances.
