Colorado Rockies vs Philadelphia Phillies Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 05/09/26

The Philadelphia Phillies suffered another tough loss at home on Friday night to the Colorado Rockies, making it two games in a row where their pitching let them down as they attempt to climb the National League East standings. Philadelphia is 7-3 over its last 10 games, but can’t afford to string together too many losses if they want to make up any ground on the red-hot Atlanta Braves. The Phillies will send Aaron Nola to the mound on Saturday to stop the bleeding, which may be easier said than done.

It has been a rough season for Nola, but a six-inning shutout against the Miami Marlins in his last start has him wondering if there could be a turnaround coming. It’ll take more than one start, as the two outings before saw him give up 11 earned runs over nine innings, and the Rockies aren’t just Coors Field merchants, ranking in the top half of the league in hitting both at home and on the road.

The Rockies send Kyle Freeland to the mound, who has been pitching substantially better on the road, as Colorado pitchers are known to do. Freeland has some good starts this season, but his inability to go longer than five innings is going to turn it over to a bullpen that is 12th-worst in the majors. It’s hard to trust Nola’s turnaround in his last start, and the Phillies’ offense is still explosive, which is why the over feels like the right play here.
