Tigers vs Red Sox Pickswise Expert Predictions

Money Line Pick
DET Tigers Win(+115)

The Detroit Tigers picked up a 4-1 win over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday and will look to secure the series on Sunday behind a favorable pitching matchup. Detroit sends the lefty Framber Valdez to the mound who is 1-1 with a 3.75 ERA this season. Valdez had one bad start against the Twins, but he’ll be in a favorable position against the Red Sox who are hitting just .219 against lefties this year. For Boston, Garrett Crochet will get the nod as he looks to rebound from a horrific outing against the Twins where he gave up 10 runs on nine hits in just 1.2 innings pitched. On the season, he’s 2-2 with a 7.58 ERA.

Offensively, the Tigers hold a slight edge, hitting .239 and averaging 4.2 runs per game compared to Boston’s .230 average and 4.0 runs per game. While neither lineup has been overly dominant, Detroit has been a bit more consistent at the plate. I don’t expect a massive showing from either team offensively in this game, but I do trust Valdez a lot more in this matchup than I do Crochet. Valdez is 3-2 with a 3.10 ERA in his career against the Red Sox and he does a fantastic job at generating ground ball outs, which could help him work out of any jam in Sunday’s matchup. I do expect this to be a close match, but at the end of the day, Detroit will be in a great position to walk away with a series win as they have the stronger pitcher on the mound and a better hitting team to get the job done on the road.
