The Arizona Diamondbacks will host the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday to begin a series. The Dodgers are cruising along with a 5.5 game lead in the NL West, as everyone expected. The D-Backs are playing well, but they were swept on the road in Seattle over the weekend. Breaking that losing streak against the Dodgers is a tall order. The Dodgers are heavy favorites, as they are most nights, but it is still in a playable range.

The pitching matchup is Emmet Sheehan and Eduardo Rodriguez. E-Rod is certainly the better of the two pitchers right now. He has logged quality starts in 4 of his last 5 outings, and the other start came at Coors Field. Sheehan has been just kind of average for the Dodgers. “Average” is plenty good enough with that offense though, and given the pitching injuries in the rotation, the Dodgers will take what they are getting. He has given up 4 runs in 4 of 10 starts, and the other 6 starts have been strong. The D-Backs have not seen him much, which is an advantage. On the other hand, the Dodgers have logged tons of at-bats against Rodriguez, many of them with a lot of success. That past success will likely yield good results again on Monday.
