The Milwaukee Brewers and Detroit Tigers enter the final of a 3-game set after each team grabbed a win in the first 2 games. The Brewers had a 12-run explosion in the series opener for a 12-4 win, while the Tigers’ pitching staff bounced back for a 5-2 win on Wednesday. The Tigers feel good about their pitching staff again on Thursday, as Tarik Skubal takes the mound for the series’ deciding game while the Brewers counter with Brandon Sproat.

Skubal’s 3-2 record doesn’t reflect how he’s actually been pitching this season. The left-hander had one bad outing against the Minnesota Twins in which he allowed 4 runs and 8 hits over 4.2 innings, but he hasn’t allowed more than 1 earned run in either of his other 4 starts. Skubal’s 2.08 ERA is a bit low given his 3.37 xERA, but the Brewers don’t have a ton of offensive depth, and their top hitter Brice Turang is abysmal against left-handed pitching.

Sproat’s numbers don’t show a pitcher that you should trust to keep a game under a 7-run total, but the right-hander is starting to come into his own for the Brewers this season. Over his last 2 starts, he allowed just 8 hits and 2 earned runs in 10.1 innings. The Tigers’ expected numbers are a bit better than the production they’ve actually had thus far, but Sproat should be able to keep them at bay.
