Framber Valdez (Astros) over 18.5 outs (+110)

Available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

I’m shocked we’re getting this prop at plus-money. Well, it’s plus money on DraftKings and FanDuel. Framber Valdez needs 5 innings tonight to move into the top 5 in innings pitched this season. That’s with the leaders pitching in 2 more games than Valdez. Valdez isn’t going to blow teams away with his velocity, but he’ll find ways to get you out in a hurry. The groundball in particular is his bread and butter. Valdez ranks in the 91st percentile in groundball% and 76th in BB%.

It’s not going to be easy tonight for Valdez, who will be facing the Oakland Athletics for the fourth time this season. In his first start he threw a complete game, but the next two weren’t so pretty. The Astros could use a quality outing from Valdez, who has pitched into the 7th inning in 5 of his last 7 games.

The sinking Athletics have been poor against lefites all season, but particularly in the last month. They rank in the bottom 10 in batting average, K%, BB% and just outside the top 10 in groundball%. These metrics scream a Valdez masterclass tonight at home, where he is much better compared to on the road.

Dean Kremer (Orioles) Over 16.5 outs (-110)

Available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

A taxed Baltimore Orioles bullpen mixed with an underwhelming St. Louis Cardinals team? Sign me up. Dean Kremer has been a quality starter for the Orioles all season with a 4.07 ERA and holding batters to a .246 batting average at home. All we need Kremer to do is get us two outs in the 6th inning and we cash. The walks will be the true tell of this bet. He issued three walks in his last start that resulted in him exiting in the 5th inning. But, before that start, he had gone 4 straight games cashing this over.

The Cardinals have called it quits on their 2023 campaign. They will most likely finish in last place in the NL Central and are currently 17 games below .500. Let’s dive into their statistics against RHP. In the last 30 days they find themselves in the bottom 10 in batting average and just outside the top 15 in on-base percentage. Kremer has yet to face anybody in the Cardinals lineup which will bodes well for us. I tend to give the advantage to the pitcher in that situation. Let’s see if Kremer can make it 11 out of 18 home starts cashing this prop.
