Best MLB player props for Saturday's slate: Rodon Ks Cubs

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Carlos Rodon (55) delivers against the Seattle Mariners during the first inning at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Take it for what you will, but I am 9-1 in my last 10 MLB player props.  I’m not saying that’s a big deal or anything, I’m just saying that’s where we’re at.  And the slate today?  We’ve got options. I have two player props that I will share here, and I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for a winning Saturday.  On top of these player props, you should definitely check out our experts’ picks on all of the MLB action today. Now let’s get to the action.

Carlos Rodon over 8.5 strikeouts (+100)

Rodon has struggled in his last two outings, but this is the perfect opportunity for him to bounce back.  He has thrown only 4.0 innings in each of those starts, but that seems unlikely in this matchup. The Cubs’ lineup is completely decimated, and they are not the same team they were just a short time ago. Lance Lynn struck out eight Cubs hitters through 6.0 innings in yesterday’s game, and Rodon should be able to top that number. He has reached this number seven times, and he has 80 strikeouts in 56.0 innings on the road this season.

Rodon ranks in the 95th percentile in terms of strikeout rate among all MLB pitchers, and the Cubs have multiple players who are multiple-strikeout targets. His opposition on the mound is Adbert Alzolay, and he has struck out 5 times in 7 at-bats against lefties this season.  Rodon is capable of pitching deep into the game, and there is solid value at +100.

Austin Gomber over 5.5 strikeouts (+112)

Miami’s first trip to Coors Field this season did not go well.  The Marlins lost 14-2 last night, and they struck out 13 times at the plate. Colorado starter German Marquez punched out 7 Miami hitters over 6.0 innings, and Gomber should be able to have a similar outing tonight. Gomber has pretty middle-of-the road strikeout numbers, but he will be facing a very soft Miami lineup. Only three teams have struck out more than the Marlins this season, and only two teams have struck out more than them over the last 30 days.  His opposition on the mound is Jesus Luzardo, and he has just three career big-league at-bats. That makes him a prime target for multiple strikeouts, and makes this total much more attainable.

Despite being a very hitter-friendly ballpark, Gomber has been very good at Coors Field. He is posting a 1.98 ERA through 7 starts at home this season, and opponents are hitting just .164 against him.  He seems to be very comfortable in his own ballpark, and he should be able to put together a strong outing. Consider backing Gomber with +112 odds.
