It’s still too early to say anything definitively, but the AFC North could come down to the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens. Right now they are tied atop the division along with the Cleveland Browns at unspectacular 2-2 records (the Pittsburgh Steelers are 1-3). As such, Sunday Night Football in Week 5 of the 2022 NFL season isn’t just a rivalry game; it may end up being hugely important in the grand scheme of things.

Here are our predictions and best bets for this Bengals-Ravens showdown.

Cincinnati Bengals vs Baltimore Ravens expert picks

We have 3 NFL picks for this week’s clash between Cincinnati and Baltimore. Let’s take a look.

Against the spread pick: Ravens -3 (-115) over Bengals

Hypothetically, not all 2-2 records are equal; the Ravens have looked like the better football team through 4 weeks. In fact, they would be 4-0 if not for a pair of blown double-digit leads against the Dolphins and Bills. Obviously you can’t just pretend like those collapses never happened, but the fact that Baltimore was blowing out those opponents for however brief a time says something about this team’s potential. Despite those losses, Lamar Jackson is still playing at an elite level.

The former NFL MVP’s dual-threat ability makes him a nightmare for opposing defenses and his running prowess should come into play once again this weekend. On the other side, the Bengals have won back-to-back games but those have come against the Jets and a Dolphins squad that was missing Tua Tagovailoa for most of the game. Cincinnati’s offense isn’t in sync yet and the its new pieces on the o-line still haven’t done enough to protect Joe Burrow.

Over/Under totals pick: Under 48.5 (-110)

Bengals games have been going under since late last season. In fact, Cincinnati is 9-0 to the under in its last 9 outings. The market does not seem to have caught up yet to the fact that the Bengals’ defense is quite solid in all areas. Their pass rush is effective and their secondary is better than many give them credit for; the results have shown as much this season, too. The Bengals are 7th in total defense DVOA per Football Outsiders and also 6th in total defense EPA, ranking inside the top 10 in both pass defense and against the run. They probably won’t entirely stop Jackson and company, but perhaps they can prevent the Ravens from completely running all over them. On the other side of the Ball, Cincy’s offense is clearly dealing with some early-season issues.

Player prop pick: J.K. Dobbins, RB, BAL Over 11.5 receiving yards (-110)

Dobbins has hit this line in each of his 2 games this year and he is getting healthier. He had an uptick in snaps during the second game of his return and that trend should continue on Sunday night. His targets also increased from Week 3 to 4, going from 2 to 4. Head coach John Harbaugh has been bringing him along slowly, but Dobbins will be needed to fend off the Bengals. Cincinnati’s defense has struggled at times to defend RBs out of the backfield. In Week 2, Tony Pollard of Dallas had 4 receptions for 55 yards; in Week 4, Breece Hall of the Jets had 6 receptions for 53 yards.
