Here are four runners whom we expected to have a leg up on the rest of the competition. It’s time to dive in and discuss these potentially profitable plays.
Race 7 at Gulfstream Park is a $60,000 Maiden Special Weight and this one can go to Mine For Passion who should improve a good amount from her first run for nearly a year at Churchill Downs last month. She finished fourth in a hotly contested six furlong Maiden at the same course in November of last year before having a lay-off and returning to finish mid-pack in a similar contest over seven furlongs. She should improve a good amount from that and has a good chance especially with this drop back to a sprint trip expected to suit.
A field of seven are set to go to post for this $39,000 Starter Optional Claiming contest and I like the horse in stall one, Dignified, who has steadily improved with each of her four runs to date and can go well again. All four of her starts have been here at Gulfstream Park with form figures reading 6521 so with plenty of track experience and a gutsy victory last time out she can put up a bold showing here.
The penultimate race at Gulfstream Park is a competitive $61,000 Allowance Optional Claimer over a mile on the turf and there could be a surprise result in this as a case can be made for one of the outsiders, Caroline’s Story. If this filly runs close to her second placed effort at Arlington back in July then she’ll have a good chance as that was a good race and she ran well to finish fourth over this course and distance a few weeks ago so I don’t see why she can’t go well again.
Chad Brown’s Beachfront Bid showed up well to finish second on debut at Aqueduct last month and with improvement expected she should be winning this $60,000 Maiden Special Weight. She had to come two to three wide down the back stretch before swinging six wide turning for home so in the circumstances she did very well and she should be able to get a good stalking position behind the leaders from stall four.
