Perceived has demonstrated good form in recent times with the sole disappointment in his last 5 starts coming when he was 6th of 7 over a mile and 1/16th in a Belmont Park allowance on his penultimate start. He made amends with an impressive 4 3/4-length triumph in a starter handicap over a mile at the same venue last month.
He had his main rival today, No Burn, back in 2nd on that occasion and a repeat of that effort can see him triumph under Irad Ortiz.
Big Package has been held in 2 stakes starts since winning a 7-furlong allowance optional claimer by 1 3/4 lengths at Belmont Park in November. The return to this level appeared to suit when he was 2nd having raced from off the pace in a similar contest at the same venue last month.
With a couple likely to want to go forward from the gate in this race, his style of racing looks likely to suit this contest and he can score as he drops in distance.
Dakota Gold has impressed in a 4-race career to date, with the only defeat coming when he was 2 1/4 lengths 5th in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf over a mile at Del Mar last November.
He had previously taken out a main track maiden at this venue and the mile Nownownow Stakes at Monmouth Park. He started this campaign by justifying odds-on favouritism over 7 furlongs in the New York Stallion Stakes and is taken to complete a double over this longer trip.
