KBO picks and predictions

Friday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

LG Twins ML (-145) over NC Dinos

After about a week-long break for the All-Star game and festivities, the KBO will resume its season on Friday morning. This matchup will see the LG Twins take on the NC Dinos. The Twins come into this game with a record of 52-31-1 and enter the second half of the season in 3rd place. They will start Casey Kelly on Friday morning, who is 12-1 on the season and has an ERA of 2.28. In 16 starts this season, he has allowed 25 earned runs over 98.2 innings.

The Dinos come into this game with a record of 32-49-2. They struggled mightily in the first half of the season, which is why they find themselves in 9th place. They will counter with Koo Chang-Moo, who is 4-2 on the season and has an ERA of 0.99. In 8 starts this season, he has allowed 5 earned runs over 45.2 innings.

Chang-Moo has no doubt been one of the best pitchers in the KBO, but he did not fare well against the Twins in his lone start against them. Kelly on the other hand, has been excellent against the Dinos and pretty much every team he has faced, therefore backing the Twins to win will be the play.

SSG Landers ML (-175) over Doosan Bears

The SSG Landers had about as good of a first half of a season as you could have as they enter this game with a record of 57-26-3 on the season and they remain in first place by 4.5 games. The SSG Landers will start Kim Kwang-Hyun, who is 9-1 on the season and has an ERA of 1.65. In 15 starts this season, he has allowed 17 earned runs over 92.2 innings.

The Doosan Bears comes into this game with a record of 36-46-2. They are still in 7th place after a disappointing first half of the season. They Bears will counter with Robert Stock on Friday morning, who is 7-6 on the season and has an ERA of 3.21. In 18 starts this season, he has allowed 37 earned runs over 103.2 innings.

Stock has by no means been bad this season, but Kwang-Hyun has been far more dominant. For that reason, backing the SSG Landers to kick off the second half of the season with a win will be the win.

Kiwoom Heroes ML (-180) over Samsung Lions

The Kiwoom Heroes were able to close the gap on the SSG Landers over the past few weeks, but the final week before the All-Star Break saw them fall behind again. The Heroes are now 54-32-1 on the season and are now 4.5 games behind the SSG Landers. They will start An Woo-Jin, who is 10-4 on the season and has an ERA of 2.02. In 17 starts this season, he has allowed 25 earned runs over 111.1 innings.

The Samsung Lions did not have a good first half of the season as they enter this game with a record of 35-50. They are 8th place in the league standings and have lost 11 games in a row. The Lions will counter with Won Tae-in, who is 4-5 on the season and has an ERA of 3.70. In 15 starts this season, he has allowed 38 earned runs over 92.1 innings.

Tae-In has certainly not been horrible this season, but Woo-Jin has just been far more dominant and the Lions have been dreadful over the last 2 weeks. For that reason, backing the Heroes will be the play.

Bonus KBO picks and predictions for Friday, July 22

Lotte Giants ML (-130) over Kia Tigers

The Lotte Giants will likely need a big second half of the season to make a push for the playoffs. They will start Charlie Barnes, who has been one of the best pitchers this season. He has an ERA of 2.74, while the Kia Tigers’ starter, Thomas Pannone has an ERA of 8.31. For that reason, backing the Giants looks to be worth a play.

Hanwha Eagles ML (+170) over KT Wiz

The Hanwha Eagles had a dreadful first half of the season, but open the second half with Yefry Ramirez, who has an ERA of 1.40. Because he has been solid so far this season, backing the Eagles to start off with a win looks to be worth a shot.
