KBO picks and predictions

Friday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Kia Tigers ML (-160) over Samsung Lions

The Kia Tigers and Samsung Lions had their game canceled on Thursday due to rain, so they will get back to it on Friday morning. The last time the Lions played, they beat the Kia Tigers 3-2 on Wednesday morning. The Lions are still 41-57-2 on the season and remain in 9th place in the league standings. They will start Won Tae-In, who is 5-5 on the season and has an ERA of 3.38. In 18 starts he has allowed 42 earned runs over 112.0 innings.

Also, part of the rainout the Tigers remain 49-49-1. They are still in 5th place in the league standings but continue to hover around .500, which could be problematic going forward. The Tigers will counter with Yang Hyeon-Jong, who is 10-5 and has an ERA of 3.18. In 21 starts Hyeon-Jong has allowed 44 earned runs over 124.1 innings.

Both of the starters scheduled for Friday have had solid seasons, but Hyeon-Jong has had much more success against the Lions compared to Tae-In has had against the Tigers. For that reason, backing the Tigers will be the play.

Hanwha Eagles (+126) over LG Twins

The LG Twins and Hanwha Eagles had their game canceled on Thursday morning and will try again on Friday. The last time the Twins played they beat the Kiwoom Heroes 5-0 on Sunday morning. The Twins are still 59-38-1 and remain in 2nd place in the league standings. They will start Lee Min-Ho, who is 8-5 and has an ERA of 5.75. In 17 starts he has allowed 52 earned runs over 81.1 innings.

The Eagles have also not played since Sunday morning, a game in which they beat the KT Wiz by a score of 6-5. They are still 31-66-2 and remain dead last in the league standings. They will counter with Yefry Ramirez, who is 2-1 and has an ERA of 1.41. In 7 starts he has allowed 6 earned runs over 38.1 innings.

Ramirez has emerged as one of their best pitchers not only on Hanwha, but in the KBO as a whole. For that reason backing the Eagles to win this game behind Ramirez will be the play.

KT Wiz vs SSG Landers – Under 7.5 runs (-104)

The total looks to be the better play because of the fact that both starters have been among the best in the KBO. Ko Young-Pyo has allowed 4 or more runs in 4 starts. In those 4 starts he allowed 4 earned runs over 25.1 innings. In 2 starts against the SSG Landers he has allowed 3 earned runs over 15.0 innings.

On the other side, Wilmer Font has allowed 4 or more runs in 4 starts this season. In his last 5 starts, he has allowed 9 runs (6 earned) over 34.0 innings. In just 1 start against the KT Wiz, Font allowed 2 earned runs over 7.0 innings. Based on the fact that both starters have had several solid outings recently, backing the under will be the top play for Friday morning.

Extra KBO picks and predictions for Friday, August 12

Kiwoom Heroes ML (-146) over Lotte Giants

The Kiwoom Heroes continued their losing streak, falling to the Lotte Giants by a score of 3-0 on Thursday morning. They will start Choi Won-Tae, who has an ERA of 3.36. The Giants will counter with Park Se-Woong, who has an ERA of 3.95. Because Won-Tae has been a little more consistent, backing the Heroes looks to be worth a play.

Doosan Bears ML (+130) over NC Dinos

The NC Dinos picked up a 3-2 win over the Doosan Bears on Thursday and will start Drew Rucinski on Friday. He has an ERA of 2.53, but his ERA against the Bears in 9.53. The Bears will counter with Robert Stock, who has an ERA of 3.13. Because Rucinski has struggled against the Bears, backing them to win looks to be worth a small play.
