KBO picks and predictions

Friday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Lotte Giants ML (-290) vs Hanwha Eagles

The Lotte Giants were unable to get anything going on Thursday, losing to a pitiful NC Dinos team by a score of 4-2. The Giants are now 18-15-1 on the season. They are now 4th in the league standings, but will have the opportunity to bounce back as they open a series with the Hanwha Eagles. To begin this series, the Giants will start Charlie Barnes. To say he has been elite might be an understatement as Barnes is 5-0 on the season and has an ERA of 1.40. In 8 starts this season, Barnes has allowed 8 earned runs over 51.1 innings.

The Hanwha Eagles lost their 7th game in a row on Thursday to fall to 11-24 on the season. The Eagles are still 9th in the league standings, but just 1 game ahead of 10th place. They will counter with Park Yoon-Chul, who is 0-2 and has an ERA of 3.33. In 6 starts this season, Yoon-Chul has allowed 9 earned runs over 24.1.

With a clear edge on the mound, the Giants should be able to bounce back from a poor performance on Thursday against the NC Dinos. For that reason, backing the Giants to win will be the play.

NC Dinos vs SSG Landers – Under 6.5 runs (+104)

The total should be considered the stronger play here because of the quality of the starting pitchers. Drew Rucinski has already seen this SSG Landers team this season, where he did not allow a run and went 7.0 innings. Similarly, Wilmer Font has faced the Dinos once, in a game where he did not allow a run or hit and pitched a complete game. The Dinos’ offense also ranks 8th in total runs this season, while the SSG Landers’ offense ranks 4th in the same category. The SSG Landers are averaging 3.5 runs per game during their 2-game losing streak and should struggle against Rucinski as well. Same goes for the Dinos, who are far too inconsistent offensively to believe they will score much against Font. For that reason, backing the under will be the play.

Doosan Bears ML (-112) vs Samsung Lions

The Doosan Bears managed to beat the Kiwoom Heroes on Thursday morning, winning by a score of 3-2. That win marks their 3rd in a row and they are now 3rd place in the standings. Friday looks to be another decent spot for them as they are scheduled to start Robert Stock. He is 4-0 on the season and has an ERA of 1.66. In 7 starts this season, Stock has allowed 8 earned runs over 43.1 innings.

The Samsung Lions also won on Thursday, beating the SSG Landers by a score of 4-2. The win was their 2nd in a row and now they find themselves sitting in 5th place. The Lions will counter with David Buchanan on Friday, who is 3-3 on the season with an ERA of 2.60. In 7 starts this season, Buchanan has allowed 13 earned runs over 45.0 innings.

Both starters have been great this season, but Stock still has the advantage on the mound. Buchanan has regressed a little as of late, allowing 3 earned runs in 2 of his last 3 starts, so backing the Bears will be the play.
