KBO picks and predictions

Sunday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

KT Wiz ML (-134) over Kia Tigers

The KT Wiz beat the Kia Tigers 5-1 on Saturday morning. They are now 65-51-2 on the season and still in 4th place in the league standings. The KT Wiz will start Wes Benjamin, who is 2-4 and has an ERA of 2.89. In 11 starts he has allowed 20 earned runs over 62.1 innings.

With the loss on Saturday the Tigers are now 58-58-1 and are in 5th place in the league standings. They will counter with Im Gi-Yeong, who is 2-10 and has an ERA of 4.27. In 20 appearances (18 starts) he has allowed 50 earned runs over 105.1 innings.

Benjamin has been a much more consistent starter this season and has had several solid starts recently, therefore backing the KT Wiz to win on Sunday will be the play.

LG Twins ML (-182) over Lotte Giants

The LG Twins and Lotte Giants had their game canceled on Saturday due to rain, so they will look to end their week on Sunday. Because there was no game, the Twins are still 71-42-1  and have won 6 in a row — remaining in 2nd place in the league standings by 4.5 games. The Twins will start Adam Plutko, who is 13-5 in 2022 and has an ERA of 2.63. In 22 starts he has allowed 42 earned runs over 144.0 innings.

The Lotte Giants won their most recent game on Friday, beating the Doosan Bears 16-4. They are still 53-63-4 for the year but are still 6th place in the  standings. The Giants will counter with Charlie Barnes, who is 11-10 and has an ERA of 3.22. In 27 starts he has allowed 60 earned runs over 167.2 innings.

Plutko has been one of the best pitchers in the KBO this season, while Barnes has also been consistent all season. However, Barnes has had a few rough starts recently, so backing the Twins will be the play on Sunday morning.

Samsung Lions ML (-156) over Doosan Bears

The Samsung Lions won their game on Saturday morning, beating the Doosan Bears 4-1. They are now 50-66-2 and in 8th place in the league standings. The Lions will start David Buchanan, who is 6-8 and has an ERA of 3.41. In 20 starts he has allowed 45 earned runs over 118.2 innings.

With the loss on Saturday the Bears are now 48-65-2. They have lost 2 games in a row and have dropped into 9th place in the league standings. The Bears will counter with Choi Seung-Yong, who is 3-5 and has an ERA of 4.73. In 42 appearances (10 starts) he has allowed 37 earned runs over 70.1 innings.

Buchanan has been consistent this season for the most part, despite a few short outings recently. He has still been better than Seung-Yong, therefore backing the Lions looks to be worth a play.

Extra KBO picks and predictions for Sunday, September 4

Hanwha Eagles ML (+140) over NC Dinos

The Hanwha Eagles will start Kim Min-Woo, who has an ERA of 5.30. He also has an ERA of 3.18 against the NC Dinos, therefore backing the Eagles is worth a play on Sunday.

SSG Landers -2.5 (+106) over Kiwoom Heroes

The SSG Landers will start Kim Kwang-Hyun, who has an ERA of 1.85. They will have a massive advantage on the mound as the Kiwoom Heroes will start Yoon Jung-Hyun, who has an ERA of 9.28. Because of the gap on the mound, backing the SSG Landers will be the play.
