KBO picks and predictions

Thursday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

SSG Landers ML (-205) over LG Twins

The SSG Landers lost to the Kia Tigers 4-3 on Wednesday morning. They are now 71-32-3 on the season, but are still in 1st place in the league standings by 8.0 games. On Thursday morning the  Landers will start Wilmer Font, who is 13-5 on the season and has an ERA of 2.33. In 22 starts he has allowed 38 earned runs over 147.0 innings.

The LG Twins won their game on Wednesday morning, beating the Samsung Lions 11-7. They are now 62-39-1 on the season, and remain in 2nd place in the league standings. The Twins will start Lee Min-Ho, who is 8-5 and has an ERA of 5.85. In 17 starts he has allowed 55 earned runs over 84.2 innings.

Font has been dominant in 2022, so even though he is coming off one of his worst starts of the season, he has the clear advantage on the mound for Thursday morning. Min-Ho has been inconsistent for the majority of the year, so backing the SSG Landers will be the play.

NC Dinos ML (-128) over Kia Tigers

The NC Dinos lost to the Hanwha Eagles 6-4 on Wednesday morning. The Dinos are now 44-54-3 and are now in 7th place in the league standings. The Dinos will start Drew Rucinski, who is 8-8 on the season and has an ERA of 2.48. In 22 starts he has allowed 39 earned runs over 141.1 innings.

The Kia Tigers beat the Landers 4-3 on Wednesday morning. The Tigers are now 51-51-1 and remain in 5th place in the league standings. They will start Yang Hyeon-Jong, who is 10-6 and has an ERA of 3.48. In 22 starts he has allowed 50 earned runs over 129.1 innings.

For as bad as the Dinos have been in 2022, they are starting to move up in the standings. They are just 5 games behind the Tigers for the final playoff spot, so a win against the Tigers is much needed. The Dinos will have the advantage on the mound for Thursday’s game, so backing the Dinos will be the play.

Samsung Lions vs Hanwha Eagles – Under 8.5 runs (-104)

The total looks to be the better play because both starters have been serviceable this year. Yefry Ramirez has allowed 4 or more runs in just 2 starts. In his last 5 starts he has allowed 7 earned runs over 30.0 innings. In 1 start against the Lions he allowed just 2 earned runs over 6.0 innings.

On the other side, Won Tae-In has allowed 4 or more runs in 6 starts. In his last 5 appearances he has allowed 10 earned runs over 29.2 innings. In 3 starts against the Eagles he has allowed 4 earned runs over 23.0 innings. Because both starters have fared well against each other and are in decent form, backing the under will be the play.

Extra KBO picks and predictions for Thursday, August 18

Lotte Giants ML (+114) over KT Wiz

The Lotte Giants will start Dan Straily on Thursday morning and while he has just 1 start on the season, he has yet to allow a run. The KT Wiz will counter with Bae Je-Seong, who has an ERA of 4.66. He also has an ERA of 7.65 against the Giants, so backing Straily will be the play.

Kiwoom Heroes vs Doosan Bears – Under 8.5 runs (-128)

The Kiwoom Heroes will start Choi Won-Tae, who has an ERA of 3.24, while the Doosan Bears will counter with Brandon Waddell, who has an ERA of 3.60. There is not much separating these pitchers and they have both been solid this season. Therefore backing the under looks to be worth a play.
