KBO picks and predictions

Thursday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

SSG Landers ML (-144) over Kia Tigers

The Kia Tigers won their game on Wednesday morning, beating the Lotte Giants 12-6. They are now 59-60-1 on the season and remain in 5th place in the league standings. The Tigers will start Sean Nolin, who is 4-7 and has an ERA of 3.21. In 15 starts he has allowed 30 earned runs over 84.0 innings.

The SSG Landers tied their game with the LG Twins 2-2 on Wednesday. They are now 78-39-4 and remain in 1st place in the league standings by 5.0 games. They will counter with Shawn Morimando, who is 5-0 and has an ERA of 1.87. In 7 starts he has allowed 9 earned runs over 43.1 innings.

Both starters have had solid seasons, but Morimando has been much more consistent and much more dominant. For that reason, backing the SSG Landers will be the play.

Kiwoom Heroes ML (-148) over LG Twins

The Kiwoom Heroes lost to the Samsung Lions on Wednesday morning by a score 2-1. They are now 69-53-2 and are still in 3rd place in the league standings. The Heroes will start Eric Jokisch, who is 9-7 for the year and has an ERA of 2.39. In 25 starts he has allowed 41 earned runs over 154.2 innings.

The LG Twins tied the SSG Landers 2-2 on Wednesday morning. They are now 72-43-2 and are still in 2nd place in the league standings. The Twins will counter with Im Chan-Kyu. He is 5-8 and has an ERA of 4.86. In 17 starts Chan-Kyu has allowed 40 earned runs in 74.0 innings.

Jokisch has been one of the Heroes best starters all season, while Chan-Kyu has been inconsistent this season to say the least. For that reason, backing the Heroes will be the play.

Lotte Giants vs Samsung Lions – Under 9.5 runs (-134)

The total looks to be the better play here on Thursday because of the fact that both starters have been in decent form as of late. In his last 3 starts, Na Gyun-An has allowed 4 runs (2 earned) over 20.0 innings. In 6 appearances against the Lions during the 2022 campaign (1 start), he has allowed 3 earned runs over 15.2 innings.

On the other side, Won Tae-In has allowed 4 or more runs in 7 starts. In his last 3 starts he has allowed 8 runs (7 earned) over 18.0 innings. In 2 starts against the Giants he has allowed 5 earned runs over 14.0 innings. This does include a start where he pitched 8.0 scoreless innings against Samsung. Given the success that both starters have had against each other and the fact that neither offense is very good to begin with, backing the under will be the play.

Extra KBO picks for Thursday, September 8

Hanwha Eagles ML (+110) over Doosan Bears

The Hanwha Eagles will start Felix Pena, who has an ERA of 4.20. However, he has an ERA of 1.50 against the Doosan Bears and is 2-0 against them; therefore backing the Eagles will be the play.

KT Wiz ML (-170) over NC Dinos

The KT Wiz will start So Hyeong-Jun, who has an ERA of 2.94. He also has an ERA of 1.29 against the NC Dinos, so backing the KT Wiz looks to be well worth a play.
