KBO picks and predictions

Tuesday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Doosan Bears vs Lotte Giants – Under 7.5 runs (+102)

The total looks to be the better play here because even though Choi Won-Joon is coming off a poor start, he has been solid for majority of the season. He has allowed 4 or more runs in 6 starts this season, but only once in his last 4 starts. During this stretch, he has allowed 7 earned runs over 21.2 innings. In 3 starts against the Giants, he has allowed 8 runs (6 earned) over 18.1 innings.

Dan Straily on the other hand may only have 1 start, but not allowing a run to the Kiwoom Heroes is good enough to suggest that he can also shut down a Bears’ offense that is inconsistent. The Bears may be 4th in total runs this season, but the fact they are near the bottom of the standings, makes the under worth a play on Tuesday morning.

SSG Landers ML (-166) over Kia Tigers

The SSG Landers ended last week with a win, beating the Doosan Bears by a score of 5-4 in extra innings. They are now 71-31-3 on the season and continue to build their lead in 1st place in the league standings. The SSG Landers will start Kim Kwang-Hyun on Tuesday morning, who is 10-2 on the season and has an ERA of 1.82. In 19 starts this season, he has allowed 24 earned runs over 118.2 innings.

The Kia Tigers ended last week with a loss to the Lotte Giants, falling to them by a score of 5-1. The Tigers are now 50-51-1 on the season and remain in 5th place in the league standings. They will counter with Thomas Pannone on Tuesday morning, who is 1-2 on the season and has an ERA of 3.54. In 5 starts this season, he has allowed 11 earned runs over 28.0 innings.

Pannone has been serviceable this season, but Kwang-Hyun has been dominant and has been one of the best pitchers in the KBO. That and the fact that the SSG Landers are clearly the best team in the league makes them worth a play on Tuesday.

Samsung Lions vs LG Twins – Under 7.5 runs (-122)

The total looks to be the better play because of how good both starters have been this season. Albert Suarez has allowed 4 or more runs in 5 starts this season. In his last 4 appearances (3 starts), he has allowed 6 earned runs over 19.1 innings. In 3 starts against the Twins this season, he has allowed 11 runs (7 earned) over 17.1 innings.

On the other side, Adam Plutko has allowed 4 or more runs in 4 starts this season. In his last 5 starts, he has allowed 3 earned runs over 31.1 innings. In 2 starts against the Lions, he has allowed 4 earned runs over 14.0 innings. Because both starters have been so consistent this season, especially recently, backing the under will be the top play for Tuesday morning.

Extra KBO picks and predictions for Tuesday, August 16

Kiwoom Heroes ML (-150) over KT Wiz

The Kiwoom Heroes look to have a massive advantage on the mound on Tuesday, as they will start An Woo-Jin, who has an ERA of 2.17. He will be facing Odrisamer Despaigne, who has an ERA of 4.30. For that reason, backing the Heroes will be the play for Tuesday morning.

NC Dinos ML (-170) over Hanwha Eagles

The NC Dinos are coming off a 6-2 win on Sunday morning and will start Lee Jae-Hak, who has an ERA of 4.52. The Hanwha Eagles will counter with Kim Min-Woo, who has an ERA of 4.92. Neither starter has been having a good season, but Jae-Hak has been more consistent recently, making the Dinos worth a small play.
