KBO picks and predictions

Tuesday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Kia Tigers vs Kiwoom Heroes – Under 7.5 runs (-112)

The total looks to be the better play on Tuesday because not only do both starters have an ERA below 3.00, but they have also both been in great form. In his last 3 starts Thomas Pannone has allowed 4 earned runs over 19.1 innings. He has not faced the Heroes this season either, which could give him a small advantage because they have not seen him pitch.

On the other side, Eric Jokisch has allowed just 3 earned runs in his last 3 starts over 20.1 innings. In 3 starts against the Tigers he has allowed 8 earned runs over 18.1 innings. Both offenses have been poor recently, especially the Heroes — who have averaged just 3.2 runs over their 5-game losing streak. Because both starters are in great form recently, backing the under will be the play on Tuesday.

LG Twins -2.5 (-112) over Hanwha Eagles

The LG Twins lost to the Doosan Bears 4-2 this past weekend. They are now 64-40-1 on the season and remain in 2nd place in the league standings. The Twins will start Adam Plutko, who is 12-4 and has an ERA of 2.58. In 22 he has allowed 38 earned runs over 132.2 innings.

The Hanwha Eagles also lost their game on Sunday, falling to the Lotte Giants 8-1. They are now 32-73-2 in 2022 and are so far in last place that they have almost no hope of climbing out. The Eagles will counter with Kim Min-Woo, who is 3-10 and has an ERA of 5.18. In 21 he has allowed 65 earned runs over 113.0 innings.

This matchup presents a massive advantage on the mound for the Twins and a game they almost must take advantage of. They trail the SSG Landers by 8.0 games for 1st place and need to win games against the bottom of the league if they want any hope of catching them. For that reason, backing the Twins will be the play on Tuesday morning.

SSG Landers vs Samsung Lions – Under 7.5 runs (+100)

The total looks to be the better play because both starters have an ERA below 2.70. Albert Suarez has allowed 4 or more runs in 6 starts this year. He did surrender 6 runs (5 earned) in his most recent start, but in his 4 previous appearances (3 starts) he had given up 3 runs or less. In 2 starts against the SSG Landers, Suarez has allowed 8 runs (3 earned) over 8.0 innings. The majority of the runs he has allowed against the SSG Landers were unearned due to poor defense, so we should expect better this time around and a solid performance from Suarez.

On the other side, Kim Kwang-Hyun has allowed 4 or more runs in just 3 starts. In his last 5 starts he has allowed 10 earned runs over 33.0 innings. In 2 starts against the Lions this season he has allowed 4 earned runs in 14.0 innings. Because both starters are in decent form and are having great 2022 campaigns, backing the under looks to be worth a play.

Extra KBO picks and predictions for Tuesday, August 23

Lotte Giants ML (-118) over NC Dinos

The Lotte Giants will start Dan Straily, who has yet to allow an earned run this season. He only has 2 starts, but has been good enough to expect another solid outing. For that reason, backing the Giants looks to be worth a play.

KT Wiz ML (-154) over Doosan Bears

The KT Wiz will start Wes Benjamin, who has an ERA of 3.06. The Doosan Bears will counter with Choi Won-Joon, who has an ERA of 3.50. Won-Joon has really struggled against the KT Wiz, posting an ERA of 7.50, therefore backing the KT Wiz looks to be worth a play.
