KBO picks and predictions

Wednesday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Hanwha Eagles ML (+118) over LG Twins

The LG Twins won their most recent game on Sunday, beating the Kiwoom Heroes 5-0. The Twins are now 59-38-1 on the season and remain in 2nd place in the league standings. They will start Kim Yun-Sik, who is 4-4 and has an ERA of 4.22. In 15 starts he has allowed 33 earned runs over 70.1 innings.

The Hanwha Eagles also won their most recent game on Sunday, beating the KT Wiz 6-5. The Eagles are now 31-66-2 and remain dead last in the league standings. They will counter with Yefry Ramirez, who is 2-1 and has an ERA of 1.41. In 7 starts he has allowed 6 earned runs over 38.1 innings.

Ramirez has emerged as one of their best pitchers not only on Hanwha, but in the KBO as a whole. Meanwhile, Yun-Sik has been inconsistent at best, therefore backing the Eagles to win behind Ramirez will be the play.

SSG Landers ML (-182) over KT Wiz

The SSG Landers ended last week with a 7-6 win over the Samsung Lions. They are now 67-30-3 in 2022 and have opened up an 8.0 game lead in 1st place. They will start Kim Kwang-Hyun, who is 9-2 and has an ERA of 1.74. In 18 starts he has allowed 22 earned runs over 113.2 innings.

The KT Wiz lost their most recent game on Sunday, falling to the Hanwha Eagles 6-5. They are now 52-43-2 and are in 4th place in the league standings. The KT Wiz will counter with Wes Benjamin, who is 2-2 and has an ERA of 3.08. In 7 starts he has allowed 13 earned runs over 38.0 innings.

Benjamin has been more than serviceable for the KT Wiz, but Kwang-Hyun has just been that much better. He is dominant almost every time he takes the mound, therefore backing the SSG Landers to win will be the play.

Samsung Lions ML (-116) over Kia Tigers

After back-to-back off days on Monday and Tuesday, the Kia Tigers come into this game with a record of 49-48-1. Their most recent game on Sunday was a win over the Doosan Bears — 5-4 in extra innings. With that win the Tigers remain in 5th place in the league standings. They will start Thomas Pannone, who is 1-2 this year and has an ERA of 3.86. In 4 starts he has allowed 9 earned runs over 21.0 innings.

The Samsung Lions come into this game with a record of 40-57-2 after losing 7-6 to the SSG Landers on Sunday. The Lions remain in 9th place in the league standings and a playoff run is looking less and less likely at this point. However, on Wednesday they will counter with Albert Suarez — who is 4-6 on the season and has an ERA of 2.45. In 20 appearances (19 starts) he has allowed 30 earned runs over 110.0 innings.

Pannone is having a decent 2022 campaign, but his lack of starts is the only concern for this game. Suarez has been consistent throughout the entire season, therefore backing the Lions will be the play.

Extra KBO picks and predictions for Wednesday, August 10

Kiwoom Heroes ML (-182) over Lotte Giants

The Kiwoom Heroes have hit a rough patch as they were once with a few games of 1st place and now find themselves 9.0 games back and in 3rd place. However, they will start An Woo-Jin on Wednesday morning, while the Lotte Giants will start Dan Straily. Woo-Jin has an ERA of 2.28; Straily will be making his season debut. For that reason, backing the Heroes will be the play.

Doosan Bears ML (-132) over NC Dinos

It is clear that neither side is having a good season. The Doosan Bears are in 6th place, while the NC Dinos are in 7th. However, on Wednesday morning the Bears will start Choi Won-Joon, who has an ERA of 3.20. That is compared to Lee Jae-Hak of the Dinos, who has an ERA of 4.95. Backing the Bears will be the play; they have the more consistent starter.
