KBO picks and predictions

Wednesday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Doosan Bears vs Kiwoom Heroes ML (-122)

The Kiwoom Heroes had a rough time on Tuesday, losing to the Doosan Bears by a score of 9-0. They are now 17-16 on the season and have lost 3 games in a row. Wednesday’s game looks to be a good spot for them to bounce back, considering they will start Choi Won-Tae. He is 2-1 on the season, but has an ERA of 1.96. In 5 starts this season, Won-Tae has allowed 5 earned runs over 23.0 innings. He also has 1 start against the Bears in which he allowed 1 earned run over 3.2 innings.

With the win on Tuesday, the Bears are now 18-14 on the season and are up to 3rd place in the league standings. Wednesday could be rough though, as they will be scheduled to start Choi Seung-Yong. He is 1-1 on the season, but has an ERA of 4.15. In 11 appearances (2 starts), Seung-Yong has allowed 8 earned runs over 17.1 innings. He does have 2 relief appearances against the Heroes, allowing 5 earned runs over 0.1 innings.

Though it is a very small sample size, Seung-Yong has an ERA of 135.0 against the Heroes. He is likely not a pitcher that can be trusted, while Won-Tae has been excellent all season. For that reason, backing the Heroes will be the play.

KT Wiz vs Kia Tigers ML (-166)

The KT Wiz lost a nail-bitter on Tuesday, falling to the Kia Tigers by a score of 1-0. The KT Wiz are now 15-17 on the season and have slipped into 8th place in the standings. They are scheduled to start Um Sang-Back, who is 2-1 on the season, and has an ERA of 3.33. In 7 appearances this season (4 starts), he has allowed 9 earned runs over 24.1 innings.

With the win on Tuesday, the Kia Tigers have now won 6 games in a row. They are 16-16 on the season and have jumped up into 6th place in the league standings. The Tigers are also trailing 5th place by 0.5 games, so with another win here, they will have the chance to pass the Kiwoom Heroes. The Tigers will counter with Lee Eui-Lee, who is 1-1 on the season and has an ERA of 2.45. In 6 starts this season, Eui-Lee has allowed 9 earned runs over 33.0 innings. His most recent start was his best of the season, allowing no runs over 8.0 innings to the Kiwoom Heroes.

The KT Wiz have been below average this season and while the Tigers just got back to .500, they have the edge on the mound. For that reason, backing the Tigers to win their 7th game in a row will be the play.

SSG Landers vs Samsung Lions +1.5 (-126)

The SSG Landers continue to terrorize the league with their 3rd win in a row on Tuesday. It was a tight game as they beat the Samsung Lions by a score of 3-1, but a win nonetheless. The SSG Landers will start Ivan Nova on Wednesday morning, who is 3-1 on the season and has an ERA of 5.91. In 6 starts, he has allowed 23 earned runs over 35.0 innings. In 1 start against the Lions this season Nova allowed 3 earned runs over 6.0 innings.

With the loss on Tuesday, the Lions fell to 16-17 on the season and are sitting in 7th place. This looks to be a good spot for them though, as they are scheduled to start Hwang Dong-Jae. He is 1-0 on the season but has an ERA of 1.62. In 4 appearances (3 starts), Dong-Jae has allowed 3 earned runs over 16.2 innings.

The SSG Landers have been dominant all season, but Nova’s struggles occur far to often to trust him here. The SSG Landers seem to be able to score runs on almost any pitcher, so backing the Lions on the run line will be the play in case their bullpen lets them down near the end of the game.
