KBO picks and predictions

Wednesday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Hanwha Eagles vs SSG Landers – Under 7.5 runs (-120)

The total looks to be the better play in this matchup based on the fact that neither starting pitcher has given up more than 3 runs this season. The number of innings they have seen is relatively low, but they both were solid in their limited starts. The Eagles are by far the worst offensive team in the KBO, averaging just 3.3 runs per game. The SSG Landers are the best offensive team, averaging 4.3 runs per game. However, they are also the best defensive team in the league and allow an average of 2.92 runs per game. The Eagles have scored 2 runs in each of their last 3 games and are unlikely to find much offense against a solid SSG Landers starter. The Landers have not been scoring a ton of runs recently either, so because both starters are more than capable of slowing their opponents down, backing the under will be the play here.

Lotte Giants ML (-175) vs KT Wiz

The Lotte Giants failed to take advantage of what had been their best pitcher in Charlie Barnes as he lasted just 3.0 innings and allowed 4 runs. Their bullpen did not help either, allowing 6 runs over the final 6.0 innings in a 10-5 loss to the KT Wiz. The Giants now find themselves in 3rd place and the loss on Tuesday snapped their 4-game win streak. Lotte is scheduled to start Park Se-Woong, who is 3-0 on the season and has an ERA of 1.76. In 5 starts this season, Se-Woong has allowed 6 earned runs over 30.2 innings.

With the win on Tuesday, the KT Wiz are now up to 6th place in the KBO standings. They snapped a 2-game losing streak on Tuesday and will look to get closer to .500 with a win on Wednesday. However, this could be a tough spot for the KT Wiz as they will be scheduled to start Bae Je-Seong. He is 1-2 on the season and has an ERA of 4.88. In 5 starts this season, Je-Seong has allowed 15 earned runs over 27.2 innings. He also has 1 start against the KT Wiz, where he allowed 6 earned runs over 5.1 innings (10.13 ERA).

Backing the better pitcher on Tuesday backfired in what was a poor outing for Barnes and the Lotte Giants. However, Se-Woong has been just as dominant, while Je-Seong has been hit hard all season. For that reason, backing the Giants will be the play.

Kiwoom Heroes ML (-125) vs Kia Tigers

The Kiwoom Heroes cruised to an easy win on Tuesday, beating the Kia Tigers by a score of 7-1. The Heroes have now won 3 games in a row and have moved up to 3rd place in the league standings. They will be scheduled to start Tyler Eppler on Wednesday morning, who is 2-1 on the season and has an ERA of 3.71. In 5 starts this season, Eppler has allowed 11 earned runs over 26.2 innings.

With the loss on Tuesday, the Tigers are trending in the wrong direction. They have now lost 6 games in a row and have fallen into 8th place in the league standings. They will counter with Im Gi-Yeong, who has not recorded a decision, but has an ERA of 4.50. In his only start this season, Gi-Yeong allowed 3 earned runs over 6.0 innings against the KT Wiz.

Neither pitcher is having the best start to the season, but Eppler has been more consistent and has more game time. Also, with the Tigers having lost 6 in a row entering this game, they are not a team to trust at the moment. For that reason, backing the Heroes will be the play.
