Another week of MLB action is wrapping up with Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN between the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets. Philadelphia has a chance to reach .500 on the season, while New York (15-7) is looking to expand its lead in the National League East. Here is a look at the best same game parlay option for Phillies-Mets and also be sure to check out our full game preview for picks on the side and total.

New York Mets -1.5 (+122)

Starling Marte to record an RBI (+200)

Jean Segura to record a hit (-185)

Parlay odds: +816

Part of the value in same game parlays, of course, is that all of its components can be correlated if you so choose. That is some of the plan here, as Starling Marte driving in at least 1 run would obviously work well with a New York win and cover. At the same time, plays that aren’t correlated drive up the overall payout of the parlay. That is the case with backing Jean Segura to get a base knock, but even if Segura does there is obviously no reason why the Mets can’t take care of business. Let’s break down each of the three legs one by one.

New York Mets -1.5 (+122)

The Mets had high expectations heading into 2022 and, at least in the early going, they have certainly lived up to the hype. They have won every series so far and have a chance to take another one tonight. After splitting the first two games of this series against Philadelphia, New York will send Max Scherzer to the mound. There may not be a starting pitcher more fit for an intense divisional matchup on Sunday Night Baseball than Scherzer. He seems to thrive in the biggest games and this matchup definitely qualifies as such. He has pitched to a 3-0 record this season in addition to a 1.80 ERA and he has had success against the Phillies throughout his career. Thy have hit a combined .134 against him. Trying to match Scherzer’s intensity in this game will be Phillies starter Zach Eflin. The problem for Eflin is that the Mets have feasted on right-handed pitching this season, ranking 3rd in both wOBA and wRC+. This is a good spot for New York.

Starling Marte to record an RBI (+200)

Starling Marte is batting just .224 this season, but a date with Eflin could be just what the doctor ordered. He is an amazing 7-for-11 lifetime in that head-to-head matchup with 5 doubles and a homer. Batting second in lineups now isn’t a bad spot for RBIs now that pitchers are not hitting 9th, and obvious leadoff man Brandon Nimmo has a good chance of being on base at least once or twice when Marte is up. Heck, given Marte’s success against Eflin he may just go deep and do all of the work himself.

Jean Segura to record a hit (-185)

Speaking of favorable matchups, Jean Segura is one of the few players who thrives against Scherzer. The leadoff man and second baseman is 9-for-27 in his career against the veteran right-hander. Segura had hit safely in 7 consecutive contests prior to the first 2 of this series, so it’s hard to see him getting kept out of the box score once again.
