The 2021 MLB season is approaching the home stretch, and it’s been long enough for us to more or less know where things stand. We have a nice big slate on Tuesday after a small one Monday, and we have a great NL West showdown here as the San Diego Padres host the Los Angeles Dodgers. It will be broadcasted wide by ESPN.

What better way to celebrate this nationally televised game than by betting a same game parlay? We also have thoughts on the side and total, which you can find out in our full game preview.

Los Angeles Dodgers -3.5 (+260)

Under 8.5 (-102)

Same Game Parlay odds: +933

We have a simple 2-leg parlay here, one which pays out just shy of 10/1 with FanDuel Sportsbook. Let’s break it down:

Los Angeles Dodgers -3.5 (+260)

There are a lot of reasons to want to fade the Padres to begin this same game parlay. San Diego has been in a tailspin recently; just 2-9 in their last 11 games. Their season is suddenly circling the drain, and they just fired their pitching coach in a move that reeked of desperation. This is a team that just lost 3 of 4 to a 42-84 Diamondbacks squad. On the flip side, the Dodgers have won 13 of their past 15 games.

San Diego will also be giving 30-year-old Pierce Johnson the first start of his big-league career. The journeyman has made 110 relief appearances over the past handful of seasons. Asking him to make his first career start against this elite Dodgers offense is a recipe for disaster. I don’t see any reason to believe the Dodgers won’t win this one going away.

Under 8.5 (-102)

We get a huge odds boost from the same game parlay formula by combining this with the Dodgers -3.5. But I don’t think it conflicts much, because I don’t see the Padres scoring much at all–largely due to the presence of Julio Urias on the mound. The young lefty has been absolutely fantastic recently. In 6 of his past 8 starts he has given up 1 or zero runs. With his recent dominance and the Padres’ complete collapse, I think there’s a good chance the Padres only score a run or two.

It’s certainly better than a 1/10 chance, which is all we will need for this same game parlay. Something like 5-1 or 6-2 Dodgers is the most likely outcome in this one.
