MLB Wednesday mega parlay (+855 odds) today 8/31: Expect the usual from Jacob deGrom

New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom

Wednesday will feature another long day of baseball as we are treated to a few afternoon games before heading into the massive night-time slate. As always, we’ve crafted a mega parlay for the action that you certainly won’t want to miss! Let’s get right into the +855 parlay.

Cardinals -1.5 (-130)

Dodgers/Mets under 6 runs (+125)

Red Sox/Twins under 7 runs (+140)

Parlay odds: +855

For this parlay, we are going with two alternate totals and one favorite on the run line. Let’s break down each of the three legs one by one.

St. Louis Cardinals -1.5 over Cincinnati Reds (-130)

The Cardinals are close to becoming an automatic bet when facing a lefty pitcher. They are 20-9 against a southpaw starter and rank 1st in OPS, wOBA and wRC+ when facing left-handed pitching. They will get the pleasure of facing Mike Minor on Wednesday night, and the veteran has had a rough 2022 season, to say the least. He’s posted a 6.10 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP through 79.2 innings and has only gotten worse as the season has progressed. He has allowed at least 4 runs in 3 of his 5 starts this month, but it’s important to realize that in the 2 starts he didn’t allow at least 4 runs came against the Marlins and Nationals — two of the worst offenses in baseball.

Minor is allowing a .286 batting average at Great American Ball Park and a .298 batting average in the second half of the season. Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt are a combined 12-for-27 (.444) against Minor in their careers, so this game should see the Cardinals scoring early and often.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs New York Mets under 6 (+125)

The average game total set for Jacob deGrom’s 5 starts this year is 6.9 runs. I’ve taken the alternate total under for all 5 of those starts and it has resulted in a 4-1 record. The average score of 5 games he’s started in is 4.6 runs, which is why I’ve felt comfortable taking the alternate total down to 6. The Mets ace has been elite in his 3 starts at home this season as his ERA drops to 1.53 and his WHIP decreases to 0.45 which is truly absurd. Opponents have a .102 batting average and a .131 OBP, so even the Dodgers’ offense should struggle at the plate on Wednesday. Opposing deGrom will be Tyler Anderson who has revitalized his career in Los Angeles this season.

He was excellent in the first half of the season with a 2.96 ERA and a .228 BAA, but he’s been even better since the all-star break with a 2.08 ERA and a .199 BAA. The Mets’ offense has been less effective against left-handed pitching this season as they rank 4th in OPS versus right-handed pitching, but 18th against southpaws. This should be a low-scoring game from the first pitch to the last.

Boston Red Sox vs Minnesota Twins under 7 (+140)

Michael Wacha could be the biggest surprise of the season. The veteran was struggling to find a home for the last few years and went from a projected 4th arm in the Boston starting rotation to their ace. Through 89 innings, Wacha has a 2.53 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP. His last outing was against the Rays and for just the 2nd time this season, Wacha allowed multiple home runs. The only other time it happened was in April against the same Rays team, so it’s fair to say Wacha’s former team had an advantage when facing him. One of his better starts of the season came against the Twins as he allowed just 1 hit in 5 innings as the Minnesota offense looked lifeless against him.

The same can be said for when Joe Ryan faced the Red Sox lineup, as he went 6 innings and allowed 1 run and 5 hits with 7 strikeouts. Ryan has been far better at home this season as his ERA drops from 5.05 on the road to 2.69 in Minnesota. This contest should bring a great pitching matchup, so take the under and anticipate a low-scoring affair.
