NHL pick today: New York Islanders ML over Philadelphia Flyers (-137), 7:07 pm ET

This will be an intriguing matchup because it will be new acquisition Bo Horvat’s first game as an Islander, and his first game with a new 8-year contract. After making a move that big, it is clear New York has playoff aspirations so as the 6th overall team in the Metropolitan Division, they have lots of work to do.

Philadelphia is a weaker team than the Islanders as it is, so even in front of their home crowd the Flyers will have a hard time getting past a sturdy defensive structure. For that reason, backing an Islanders win will be the play.

NHL pick today: Calgary Flames ML over New York Rangers (+104), 7:37 pm ET

The Flames and Rangers will look to open up the second half of the season on the right foot as they face off in New York tonight. The Flames rank top 10 in xGF%, xGF per 60 minutes and xGA per 60 minutes, showcasing their dominance in all aspects of the game. Their goaltending has been the most unreliable piece of the team due to the inconsistency of Jacob Markstrom and Dan Vladar.

Nonetheless, goaltending is the only advantage the Rangers should have in this matchup, as Calgary is the much more well-rounded and balanced team down the board and they should be able to outlast the Rangers on the road.

NBA pick today: Sacramento Kings -5.5 over Houston Rockets (-110), 8:10 pm ET

For 3 games in a row the Sacramento Kings have lost and scored just 104 points. Playing Houston should help, but this being the second night of a back-to-back could make things trickier. Further, Sacramento is 6-1 SU in the last 7 meetings, 5-1-1 ATS during that stretch and has won both meetings this season by 20 and 25 points.

Over their last 20 games, the Rockets have just 3 wins and at home they’re 2-13 SU in the last 15 games. Against teams from the Pacific Division they’ve covered only once in 6 games, and things have been going downhill for a while with no end in sight. With Fox returning to the lineup, the Kings should be revitalized. For that reason, backing the Kings to cover will be the play.

College Basketball pick today: Texas Longhorns +3.5 over Kansas Jayhawks (-102), 9:00 pm ET

With the quick turnaround for both teams, depth is going to be important in this ranked matchup between the Big 12-leading Texas Longhorns (19-4, 8-2) and the Kansas Jayhawks (18-5, 6-4).

Texas has one of the deepest back-courts in the country with 3 players who average at least 10 points per game in Marcuss Carr, Sir’Jabari Rice and Tyrese Hunter. They average 37.8 points per game combined to go along with Timmy Allen’s 10.8, and that is one of the keys to victory for the Longhorns against the Jayhawks due to their shot-making abilities.

The Longhorns have more reliable shot-makers and they are more trustworthy from the free-throw line as well, which will be an advantage for them in a close game. For that reason, backing Texas to cover will be the play.
