C.J. McCollum to score 30+ points (+330)

The biggest disadvantage of the Trae Young experience is his defense, or the lack of it. I feel like C.J. McCollum has the upper hand in their matchup as he’s about 2 inches taller and 25 lbs heavier, and with their speed being almost equal I’d definitely give the edge to the Pelicans guard. He has already played against the Hawks once this season and scored 29 points on 52% shooting while also catching 10 rebounds. In 7 career meetings against Young, C.J. is averaging 25.1 points per game. Since the start of 2023, McCollum has scored 20 or more points in 14 of 17 games and with that kind of consistency the Pelicans will have a reliable weapon come playoff time. Brandon Ingram returned to the lineup a week ago and he’s still finding his way back into form, so New Orleans won’t be able to rely on him heavily just yet. The Hawks defense has been one of the worst in the last 5 or 6 games in the NBA, so we should be in for a high-tempo game and I think McCollum can get to 30 points.

Trae Young to record 10+ assists (-125)

Trae Young has been playing a lot better since getting snubbed for the NBA All-Star Game. His numbers over the last 8 games average 25.3 points and 10.3 assists per game. His efficiency still isn’t up to his usual level, and as a result he has increased his assist numbers considerably. Prior to the win at Utah the other night, Young had a streak of 5 games in a row of double-digit assists. Playing at a fast pace and scoring a ton of points certainly works in his favor, and I’m not expecting a lot of defense to be played in tonight’s game against the Pelicans. Young has faced the Pelicans a total of 6 times in his career, and he has failed to reach 10 assists just once and that was back in 2021. The Hawks have made 38.9% of their threes in the last 3 games, and they are among the 10 best teams in road games this season in terms of 3-point efficiency. If those numbers carry on in this game, Young should have no issues reaching 10 assists.
