Ja Morant to score 30+ points (+105)

When you’re gunning for the MVP award it is vital to have as many signature performances as you can, especially on the bigger stage. It doesn’t get any bigger than playing the Lakers on the road in front of a national TV audience, so I’m expecting Morant to be up for it in this one. He’s been averaging 29.5 points per game over his last 8 games, while shooting 53.7% from the field in just 30.4 minutes per game. He is one of the most productive points-per-minute players in the NBA this season, and in 2 of his last 3 games he’s played just 25 and 27 minutes.

Morant’s biggest weapon by far is attacking the basket and luckily for him, these Lakers aren’t all that elite in paint defense this season. Teams are averaging 60.7 points against them in that area over the last 3 games, and only the Spurs, Timberwolves and Rockets are worse than that during the stretch. Look out for Morant to relentlessly attack the basket tonight — the Lakers should have no answer for him.

Jaren Jackson Jr. over 7.5 rebounds (+102)

Consistency is one of the main attributes of Jaren Jackson Jr.’s game this season. He’s been averaging 8.2 rebounds per game over his last 10 outings, clearing this line 6 times in his last 8 outings. A fast game is expected tonight with both teams ranking in the top 10 in pace, which is always good when you’re betting on rebounds.

LA is allowing 53.6 rebounds per game this season, that’s the 5th-worst mark in the entire NBA. The last time he faced the Lakers, JJJ finished with 12 rebounds in just 29 minutes of play. With Anthony Davis still out for the Lakers, his main threat on the boards will be Thomas Bryant who, let’s face it, isn’t on his level at the moment. Don’t be surprised if Jackson ends up in double digits on the boards tonight.

LeBron James over 7.5 assists (-104)

I know we’re all focused on LeBron’s scoring numbers as he tries to surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the all-time scoring list, and we should be. James has been defying his age lately, averaging 36.4 points per game over his last 8 meetings, but tonight he goes up against the 2nd-best defensive efficiency team in the NBA, so he could have a few issues scoring the basketball. Because of this, I see him deferring more to his teammates, which shouldn’t be an issue for him — he’s done it his entire career.

During those last 8 games, he’s also averaging 8.6 assists per game, while also clearing this line in 4 games straight. All 4 of those games were high scoring and with the oddsmakers expecting around 241.5 points, tonight’s game should be no exception to that. Memphis really isn’t known for disrupting opponents’ ball movement, they are allowing 26.3 assists per game this season which is the 3rd-worst mark in the NBA. Over their last 3 games that number is up to 29.3 per game, so it turns out getting an assist is probably easier than scoring against this team. King James turns into Magic James tonight as he gets his teammates involved here.
