Let’s continue by taking a look at some of the best bets for Sunday at Flushing Meadows, and be sure to also check out our best futures bets on both the men’s side and the women’s side.

Carlos Alcaraz -1.5 sets over Peter Gojowyczk (-190)

Alcaraz just delivered by far the biggest moment of his career on Friday, upsetting Stefanos Tsitsipas in a five-set epic. Sure it’s never easy to build on a monumental win, but there just seems to be something different about the mental makeup of this kid. The 18-year-old Spaniard is already up to No. 55 in the world and captured his first career title earlier this summer in Umag. His appearance in the U.S. Open fourth round is surprising, but Gojowyczk’s is shocking. The 141st-ranked German has already played six matches in New York (three to qualify for the main draw) and has played 14 total sets through three rounds. He may be even more fatigued than Alcaraz. Fatigue aside, the discrepancy in natural talent level in this matchup is immense. Alcaraz will likely hit way too big for Gojowyczk.

Simona Halep over Elina Svitolina (-128)

Halep was plagued by injuries for much of the summer, and as a result she has been undervalued by the markets throughout the U.S. Open. We were all over Halep on Friday and there is no reason to jump off the bandwagon now. Although the head-to-head series is tied at 5-5, the Romanian is 2-0 against Svitolina at Grand Slams—including a 6-1, 6-3 beatdown at Wimbledon in 2019. Svitolina is in good form but not great (she lost her opening match in both Montreal and Cincinnati) and based on Halep’s level through three rounds it will take something great to beat her.

Frances Tiafoe +1.5 sets over Felix Auger-Aliassime (-130)

Tiafoe actually has a great chance of upsetting Auger-Aliassime outright, so picking him to simply win at least two set should be a relatively safe play. The American has been awesome through three rounds and is thriving in this New York atmosphere. Another night session in Arthur Ashe Stadium will suit him perfectly. Auger-Aliassime had a world of trouble closing out Evgeny Donskoy in the first round and Roberto Bautista Agut in the third round. So far this week Tiafoe has been playing superior tennis and also looks tougher in the mental department. For whatever it’s worth, this should also be the best match of the day—by far—from an entertainment standpoint.
