Who will win the Cy Young award for the 2022 MLB season?

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes (39) takes a little extra time between pitches against the Chicago Cubs in the sixth inning at American Family Field.

The MLB finally returns this week. After a 99-day lockout and numerous big moves in free agency, the 2022 MLB season will look a little different than in 2021. Here at Pickswise, we’ve been posting baseball content for months now and you can check it all out under our MLB news tab.

Today we’ll be looking at the Cy Young betting market.

2022 MLB Cy Young best bets

In the NL, Corbin Burnes (+800) is your best bet. Not only has Burnes transformed into the ace of the Brewers, but he has also become one of the best pitchers in the game. The 27-year-old had a season for the record books in 2021 as he finished the year with a 2.42 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP. More impressively, Burnes finished the season with a 2.00 xERA, which puts him in the 99th percentile, but it also means statistics expected him to have an ERA lower than 2.42.

Essentially, Burnes was expected to get better as he continued to pitch, which is absurd since he already had such a low ERA. Burnes also finished in the 90th percentile or better in hard-hit percentage, xBA, whiff percentage, chase rate, barrel percentage, and so much more. Expect another stellar season from the Milwaukee ace in his attempt at his second Cy Young in two years.

The AL is loaded with star pitching, but one guy stands out in my mind. Shane Bieber (+700) is incredible value. The 2020 Cy Young winner suffered a shoulder injury in 2021 that forced him to miss a considerable amount of time in 2021 as he made only 16 starts last season. Yet, Bieber made the most of his limited starts last season as he posted a 3.17 ERA with a 1.21 WHIP in 16 starts.

He continued to be a strikeout pitcher as his 33.1% strikeout rate ranked in the 94th percentile, but it was down a great deal from 2020 when it was 41.1%. However, Bieber has made it clear that he is 100% healthy and ready to make 30 or more starts in 2022. With a lot of upside and very little downside, Bieber is a solid candidate for Cy Young.
