Welcome to another terrific Thursday of sports, Pickswise Nation. We have a quieter slate of MLB games today, but there’s plenty in store on the horizon, and we have the 3M Open getting underway on the links, too. Let’s get straight to making your next bet better!

About Last Night

Wild day of MLB results
Wednesday featured a full slate of baseball, including a number of matchups between high-profile teams. In the AL West, the Rangers crushed the Astros 13-5, while the Blue Jays dominated the Dodgers in Los Angeles to earn a series victory. Out east, the Red Sox stayed hot with a win over the Braves and the Yankees earned a Subway Series split with a 3-1 victory over the Mets.

Team USA holds serve with Dutch
In what was a rematch of the 2019 Women’s World Cup final, the USWNT battled to a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands in the second game of Group E action in New Zealand. The U.S. and Netherlands are even on points (4 each), but the United States does have an edge in goal differential. As long as they win their final Group Stage game by more than 1 goal, the Stars and Stripes will be in good shape to win the group.

Today’s Slate

Quieter day on the diamond
After a massive day of baseball on Wednesday, Thursday’s slate is much more stripped down in comparison. Only 5 games are scheduled, with 2 of the games coming as a result of a day-night doubleheader in Detroit between the Angels and Tigers. Elsewhere, the Mets will host the Nationals and the Cardinals will welcome the Cubs to St. Louis. Check out all of today’s MLB picks.

Best Bet of the Day

MLB: Cleveland Guardians vs Chicago White Sox: NRFI (-115)
8:10 pm ET

Both of these offenses don’t inspire much confidence at all, and I don’t see a scoring outburst coming in this one against either starting pitcher. For the hosts, Dylan Cease has been up-and-down this season but the right-hander has been on the upswing of late. Cease has surrendered just 2 runs on 6 hits over his last 11 innings pitched, as part of a run where he’s allowed just 20 ER over his last 10 outings. On the other side, Tanner Bibee has allowed just 4 runs over his last 5 outings as part of a dominant month of July. Chicago’s offense has been dormant all season, so let’s back both pitchers to toss a scoreless opening frame. Read our expert’s full MLB YRFI/NRFI best bets.
