Good morning, Pickswise Nation. The week in Major League Baseball continues with a full 15-game schedule on Friday. There are also 6 NFL preseason contests on the docket tonight. It’s another big day in the world of sports, so let’s get right to it and make your next bet better with Wise n’ Shine!

About Last Night

Orioles add a game to AL East lead
The Orioles beat the Astros 5-4 on Thursday and now lead the American League East by 3 games. That’s because Tampa Bay lost to St. Louis 5-2. In other results, Boston shut out Kansas City 2-0 and Detroit blanked Minnesota 3-0.

Texans kick off NFL preseason Week 1 with a win
Houston defeated New England 20-9 in the 2 teams’ preseason opener. Davis Mills and Case Keenum threw touchdown passes for the Texans, while #2 overall pick C.J. Stroud completed 2 of 4 passes for 13 yards with an interception.

Today’s Slate

Apple TV double-header
A full 15-game MLB schedule is highlighted by a double-header on Apple TV. It begins with the Cubs visiting the Blue Jays at 7:07 pm ET before the Giants host the Rangers at 10:15 pm ET. We also have Yankees at Marlins, Angels at Astros and Orioles at Mariners. Don’t miss our MLB predictions.

Week 1 of the NFL preseason in full swing
NFL preseason action continues with 6 games on Friday night. Two of them are on NFL Network: Packers at Bengals (7:00 pm ET) and Broncos at Cardinals (10:00 pm ET). Check out all of our NFL picks.

Best Bet of the Day

MLB: Houston Astros -1.5 over Los Angeles Angels (+110)
8:10 pm ET, Fox Sports

Reid Detmers is taking the mound for the Angels and that is hardly good news for the visitors. Detmers is 2-8 with a 4.78 ERA and 1.35 WHIP this season. Of course, the Astros would have the pitching advantage here against anyone other than Shohei Ohtani. That’s because they are sending Justin Verlander to toe the rubber. Verlander, who was acquired from the Mets at the trade deadline, is sporting a 3.11 ERA and 1.15 WHIP and has been getting better and better since a slow start to the year. In the debut of his second stint with Houston last week, the veteran right-hander allowed just 2 runs in 7.0 innings against the Yankees. Check out our full Angels vs Astros predictions.
