About Last Night

Top-ranked Georgia survives, Alabama runs over Arkansas
The chance for an all-undefeated SEC Championship showdown between Georgia and Alabama is still alive after the two national powerhouses picked up victories on Saturday. UGA came back from a double-digit deficit to win at Missouri 26-22, while ‘Bama beat Arkansas on the road 49-26. Jahmyr Gibbs rushed for 206 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead the Crimson Tide.

Braves take over NL East lead, Judge still on 61
There has been a change at the top of the NL East, with the Braves seizing a 1-game lead over the Mets by taking the first 2 games of their head-to-head series. The other New York team also remains in the headlines, as Yankees slugger Aaron Judge is still tied with Roger Maris for the all-time American League single-season home-run record at 61 after being kept inside the park by the Orioles on Saturday.

Today’s Slate

Chiefs-Bucs is the nightcap of a big NFL schedule
We have football all day long, ladies and gentlemen. The Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers headline the schedule in primetime, while an intriguing 1:00 pm ET contest pits the Buffalo Bills against the Baltimore Ravens. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles are putting their undefeated record on the line as they host the Jacksonville Jaguars. You can find all of our Week 4 coverage on the NFL page.

Mets-Braves on Sunday Night Baseball
With the Braves having taken the first two games of the series, Sunday’s NL East showdown could not be any bigger. The winner will take the lead in the division, own the season-long head-to-head tiebreaker and control its own destiny heading into the final series of the 2022 regular season. Be sure to read all of our MLB previews.

Best Bet of the Day

NFL: Las Vegas Raiders -2.5 over Denver Broncos (-115)

No, this is not a misprint. The only winless team in the entire NFL is our best bet of the day – or at least one of our best bets. Despite their 0-3 record, the Raiders are favored over the Broncos…and for good reason. All of Las Vegas’ losses have been by 6 or fewer points, while the Broncos are very lucky to be 2-1. Denver almost lost to Houston as a massive favorite in Week 2 and then scraped past the 49ers by 1 point last week in an ugly game in which San Francisco QB Jimmy Garoppolo’s stepping out the back of the endzone proved to be the difference. The days of Russell Wilson being a top-tier quarterback appear to be long gone. Things aren’t nearly as bad in Las Vegas as the NFL standings suggest. It is time to buy low, especially when you can get this number at less than a field goal.

Stat of the Day

Heading into Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield ranks 32nd out of 33 qualifying QBs in EPA/play (expected points added) plus CPOE (completion percentage over expectation). Mayfield is also dead last in success rate, bottom 10 in air yards and has a completion percentage barely above 50. Meanwhile, Carolina head coach Matt Rhule is 11-25 overall in his tenure and 1-25 when his defense allows at least 17 points.

Quote of the Day

“What do I look like? A doctor? An orthopedic surgeon? (We are taking it) day by day.”

— New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick when asked earlier this week about quarterback Mac Jones’ ankle injury. Jones was later ruled out of today’s game against the Green Bay Packers.
