Browns vs Jets Pickswise Expert Predictions

Point Spread Pick
CLE Browns Win -2.0(-110)

We’ve got 2 AFC teams that could both desperately use a win here as the Cleveland Browns take on the New York Jets. The Jets this past week loudly announced their intention to tank the rest of the season when they traded away both Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams. The Gardner move was particularly surprising, and it’ll be hard for Aaron Glenn to rally his troops for the rest of the year after that one. I’m taking the Browns here, but not just for that reason.

The Jets were pretty lifeless even before they traded away those key pieces, entering this one with just one win, and even the one win was by a single point against a terrible Bengals team. Right before the miraculous win against Cincy, they had just lost 13-6 to the Panthers and 13-11 to the Broncos, so I’m not buying any talk of an offensive resurgence for Justin Fields. While the Jets will likely enter this one demoralized after the trade deadline news, the Browns should enter this one refreshed and with a pep in their step coming off their bye week. Cleveland also made a change during the bye by going to Tommy Rees as their playcaller, which if nothing else should at least give the offense a shot of energy in the short term.

Dillon Gabriel has been bumpy to start his pro career, but the bye week was probably an invaluable time for him to really learn the offense and get comfortable running it. And while he hasn’t looked great, neither has Fields to put it kindly. The Jets have been a disaster in every sense of the word, and the Browns at least have more bright spots than they do with guys like Myles Garrett still playing at an all world level.

Game Totals Pick
Under 38.0(-110)

This one should be first to 17 wins, so I’m playing the under here. Cleveland’s offense has been a big disappointment, but their defense has been showing up. Myles Garrett is playing some of the best ball of his career, and that’s really saying something. He already has 10 sacks, and should have Justin Fields running for his life all day. The Jets’ offense has only been productive when they played a historically terrible Bengals defense, other than that they’ve been anemic. And Cleveland’s offense has only mustered more than 17 points once all season, so if there was ever a game primed to be a defensive struggle it’s this one. Both teams recognize their limitations, and will be running the ball as much as possible. While Cleveland’s playcalling switch might improve things slightly, it isn’t going to turn them into the Bills overnight.
