NY Giants Win +4.5(-110)

Not exactly a marquee matchup here, but still one that I’m excited about as the New York Giants take on the Chicago Bears. The Giants looked all set for a resurgence with Jaxon Dart making highlight reel plays from under center, and then the injury bug bit. Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo have both been lost for the season with devastating injuries, leaving Dart somewhat alone on offense. But even with that being the case, I still think the value is with the G Men here. The Bears’ 5-3 record is fraudulent, and even they seem to know it. Let’s dig into those 5 wins real quick.

They’ve come against the Cowboys, the Raiders by a single point, the Commanders by a single point, the Saints and the Bengals. All five of those teams are under .500 and floundering, and several of them came on miraculous last minute finishes. Last week they needed a last second touchdown due to some mind boggling Bengals missed tackles in the final minute just to sneak by a spiraling Cincinnati team. They gave up 42 points to a Bengals team being led by Joe Flacco who they just traded for a few weeks ago, so I don’t think that win is anything to get excited about.

When they’ve stepped up in competition they’ve consistently been smoked, like when they gave up 52 points to the Lions or got beat by 14 by a Ravens team that didn’t even have Lamar Jackson. The Giants have consistently been feisty and competitive even as they’ve struggled with injuries, against far better teams than this Bears one, so there’s no way I could lay this many points with Chicago.

I also think the under makes some sense in this spot. Even though Chicago’s defense has looked terrible at times this year, I don’t have much confidence in either offense here. Caleb Williams hasn’t gotten very much better from his rookie season, and I’m not giving him any credit for doing well last week against a Bengals defense that is legitimately one of the worst I’ve seen in many years.

With Cam Skattebo going down for the year with a gruesome ankle injury, the Giants now have a startling lack of talent at the skill positions. Both of these teams have played in some shootouts recently, artificially inflating this total when I project this to be a much different type of game with two very young quarterbacks who have both been up and down to put it kindly. Dart has been exciting, but he’s still averaging only 6.7 yards per attempt and taking too many sacks.

Under 46.5 at publishing.
