Titans vs Colts Pickswise Expert Predictions

Tennessee Titans
Point Spread Pick
IND Colts Win -14.5(-110)

One of the NFL’s biggest disappointments will take on one of its most pleasant surprises as the Tennessee Titans visit the Indianapolis Colts. Things have gone so poorly for Tennessee that they’ve already fired their coach less than 2 months into the season. So much for a honeymoon for Cam Ward. The first overall pick in this past draft hasn’t done much to inspire confidence, and not all of his struggles can be blamed on coaching or circumstance. Like last week, when the ball slipped out of his hands as he cocked it backward in the closing seconds to end the game with a lost fumble.

He’s missed plenty of throws and doesn’t look ready for primetime. While I normally don’t like laying it with spreads this large, if there’s one team who has shown an ability to run up the score this season it’s the Colts. Indy’s offense has been a revelation, and Shane Steichen has Daniel Jones playing like one of the best quarterbacks in the league to go along with Jonathan Taylor spearheading one of the best ground attacks in the league. They’ve steamrolled opponents on offense, scoring at least 29 points in six of their seven games. Imagine saying that before the season.

One of those steamrolled opponents was this same Titans team when these squads met back in Week 3. Indy dropped 41 in that one while cruising to a 21-point victory, and that game was played in Tennessee. That game was also played when the Titans still had Calvin Ridley, who is now sidelined with a hamstring injury. All six of Tennessee’s losses this season have come by 8 points or more, so it’s not like they’ve been playing many nailbiters. I don’t expect this one to be particularly competitive.

The over also makes a lot of sense here. The Colts have had arguably the best offense in the league this season, and they dropped 41 points when these teams played each other a few weeks ago. And to make matters worse for the Titans’ defensive outlook, they’re going to be without defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, the best player on the entire team, for this one. Indy’s defense has been a bit shaky as they’ve given up 24 and 27 points the last two weeks to the Chargers and Cardinals, so even Tennessee should be able to have just a little bit of success here.

It’s a very low bar, but Cam Ward actually had one of his ‘best’ games of the year when these teams first played, and was able to move the ball somewhat well for most of the day. This game will be played in a dome between two middling defenses and the Colts have scored 29+ points in all but one game this season, so this one feels like it has sneaky shootout potential to me.
