Ohio State vs Texas Parlay Pick: Texas Longhorns ML over Ohio State Buckeyes (-118)
While Ohio State has gotten the better of Texas in the last couple of meetings, the situation lines up nicely for the Longhorns to punch back on Saturday. Texas is finally getting to host the Buckeyes, and this is clearly the best team head coach Steve Sarkisian has had in his time in Austin. Texas is absolutely loaded on offense with one of the best skill position groups in the nation, and Sarkisian should have an easier time of scheming up successful drives against an Ohio State defense that lost a whopping 11 players to the NFL in the offseason, including a number of high first round draft picks (Caleb Downs, Arvell Reese, Sonny Styles). The Buckeyes are still one of the best teams in the sport, but getting to face Arthur Smith's new offense and what is essentially a brand new defense in Week 2 is a clear advantage for Sarkisian and the Longhorns. Ohio State vs Texas Parlay Pick: Over 49.5 (-112)
While it's hard to take much away from what each of these teams showed in Week 1, one thing that stood out to me was Ohio State's change in offensive philosophy. Yes, any game against Ball State should be taken with a grain of salt, but the Buckeyes played at a much faster tempo than what they showed a season ago. If this new-look Ohio State offense is going to implement more tempo and generate more explosive plays, that will put the Longhorns in a situation where they need to respond with touchdowns of their own. And as previously mentioned, while Sarkisian has struggled mightily in the red zone in recent seasons, he finally has an offense that is built to have plenty of answers around the goal line. Typically I tend to side the under in games of this magnitude, but this could be a higher-scoring affair than what the market is projecting.
Ohio State vs Texas Parlay Pick: Jeremiah Smith (OSU) Anytime Touchdown Scorer (-110)
On first glance, it's tempting to target another Ohio State player to find the end zone given that Jeremiah Smith will undoubtedly attract a ton of attention from the Texas defense in this game. However, I have serious concerns with the Buckeyes ground game and have been consistently underwhelmed with Bo Jackson as the lead running back in this offense. Furthermore, there are questions to be had with the Texas secondary, and we saw the Longhorns allow plenty of yards to Texas State last week. Smith is used to every kind of coverage imaginable at this point, and it hasn't slowed him down over the course of 2+ seasons at the collegiate level. The best receiver in the game finds the end zone once again on Saturday.
