With only nine games left, the New York Yankees still have a chance to win the AL East if things go their way. Sitting just four games back of the Rays in their division, and with a pivotal four-game series coming up at home against the Rays, the Yankees can’t afford to lose these matchups. Starting things off for New York will be Cam Schlittler, who enters with a 14-6 record and a 1.95 ERA. The Diamondbacks will hand the ball to Brandon Pfaadt, who enters with a 7-3 record and a 3.77 ERA.
The Yankees have the edge offensively, averaging 6.0 runs per game compared to the Diamondbacks 4.4 in their last 10 games. Schlittler has been terrific all season for the Yankees, and I don’t expect that to change tonight. While Pfaddt has pitched well all year, he has struggled of late -- going 0-2 with a 5.21 ERA in his last three games. At the end of the day, I trust the Yankees more than I do the Diamondbacks. While Arizona is playing for a final NL wild-card spot, the Yankees have the better offense and pitcher on the mound and should be able to take care of business on the road.
