Atlanta and Houston both possess enough offensive firepower to make a total uncomfortable, but the starting-pitching matchup gives us a strong foundation for a lower-scoring game. Grant Holmes takes the ball for Atlanta carrying a 9-5 record and 3.49 ERA, and he has been particularly sharp of late. Over his last five starts, Holmes has surrendered just five earned runs across 24 innings, including scoreless outings against Philadelphia, Washington and Chicago.
Houston counters with Hayden Wesneski, who's quietly put together a solid campaign himself. Wesneski enters 5-2 with a 3.70 ERA and 1.13 WHIP, and outside of a difficult outing against Tampa Bay last time out, he's been extremely reliable. Before that start, Wesneski had allowed just four earned runs across his previous 23.0 innings. That's enough pitching quality on both sides for me to trust the Under. Neither starter needs to completely dominate. If Holmes and Wesneski can simply navigate five or six innings without allowing crooked numbers, we've created a manageable path toward staying Under 8.5. Instead of trying to separate two capable teams, I'll trust the arms. Under 8.5 at normal vigorish is the move here.
