However, the Brewers dominated the first game of this series on Tuesday evening, winning 13-2. The tide could flip a little in this game, given the pitching matchup between Eduardo Rodriguez and Brandon Sproat. Rodriguez had a strong start to the season but is struggling in his last 2 starts, while Sproat also has a couple of poor outings this season that boosted his ERA.

Rodriguez had an identical stat line over his past 2 starts against the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox, allowing 6 hits and 4 earned runs over 5 innings. Before those games, he had allowed just 1 earned run in his first 3 starts, which is the form he is looking to return to against the Brewers. Rodriguez’s numbers are boosted by his start to the season, but his 2.89 ERA is overshadowed by a 4.96 xERA.

Sproat has actually been in better form recently, allowing just 5 earned runs over his last 3 starts. The 7-run outing to start the season put him off on the wrong foot, but he has bounced back admirably since to lower his ERA.  Nevertheless, he is still prone to a blowup or two, and did allow three earned runs in just 5.1 innings last time out.

With the Brewers in the middle of the pack and the Diamondbacks near the bottom of the bullpen rankings, two pitchers who could struggle, and a Brewers offense that hits extremely well against the lefties, this game has the makings of being high scoring.
