Red Sox vs Guardians Pickswise Expert Predictions

Money Line Pick
CLE Guardians Win(-130)

The Red Sox fell behind early on Friday night, surrendering 4 first-inning runs to the Guardians, and never fully recovering in a 4-3 loss. Boston will look to even the series on Saturday when they hand the ball to one of their most reliable arms, Sonny Gray. Gray enters with a 5-1 record, 3.27 ERA and 1.20 WHIP this season. Cleveland will hand the ball to left-hander Parker Messick, who enters with a 6-1 record, 2.24 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP.

On paper, this is a fantastic pitching matchup. Gray has been excellent for Boston, but Messick has been one of the most consistent starters in baseball this season. The biggest concern for Messick is that Boston has hit left-handed pitching well all year, batting .274 against southpaws. The Red Sox have also been swinging hot bats lately, averaging 4.6 runs per game while hitting .290 over their last 10. The Guardians offense is averaging only 2.6 runs and hitting .224 in that same span. However, Cleveland’s success this season has been built around strong pitching, and Messick has been a major reason why. While Boston’s offense presents a challenge, the Guardians have done a great job at limiting scoring opportunities, and we saw that last night. With Cleveland holding the edge on the mound and Boston losing six of their last 10 games, I like Cleveland to get the job done at home.

Red Sox vs Guardians prediction: Cleveland Guardians ML (-130) at the time of publishing. Playable to -140.
