I favor the over on the posted game total in Wednesday’s matchup between the Chicago White Sox and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Both teams have hit left-handed pitching well to begin the 2026 regular season, ranking within the top 7 in wOBA, and both lineups will get a chance to produce against a southpaw on Wednesday. Chicago is set to face Eduardo Rodriguez who is making his 5th start of the season for Arizona. His first 3 starts were a continuation of his strong play during the World Baseball Classic, but E-Rod did struggle during his last start. Baltimore was able to get to him for 4 earned runs in his 5 innings of work, drawing 4 free passes and recording 6 base knocks along the way. Rodriguez holds a 1.96 ERA through 23 innings of work, but his 4.17 xERA and 4.23 FIP suggest impending regression.

Anthony Kay is the scheduled starter for Chicago Wednesday night. Kay found his form in the NPB the past 2 seasons, regaining value as an MLB pitcher. Chicago swooped in during free agency and signed him to be a part of their rotation, similar to what they did with Erick Fedde a few seasons ago. Kay has not been overly sharp to begin 2026, tossing just 17.1 innings across his first 4 outings. His ERA of 2.60 is a desirable mark, but he has been fortunate to achieve that mark given his 6.88 xERA and 5.33 FIP. Opponents have a BABIP of just .212 against Kay so far and he is stranding over 90% of base runners. Those marks are unsustainable and I look for runs from both sides in this game.
