Rockies vs Mets Pickswise Expert Predictions

Run Line Pick
NY Mets -1.5(+100)

This is a textbook pitching mismatch, and in a doubleheader setting, those edges tend to get magnified. The New York Mets send out one of their most dynamic arms in Nolan McLean, while the Colorado Rockies counter with a struggling Jose Quintana. On paper, and more importantly under the hood, this isn’t particularly close.

McLean has been outstanding despite a modest 1-1 record, and that’s largely due to poor bullpen support rather than any shortcomings of his own. A 2.67 ERA paired with over 11 strikeouts per nine innings and a 44% ground ball rate paints the picture of a pitcher in full control. The advanced metrics reinforce it even further: an xERA under 2.00 and a 2.37 FIP suggest he’s been even better than the results indicate. Quintana, on the other hand, is trending in the opposite direction. The former Met enters at 0-2 with a 6.23 ERA, and the peripherals are alarming. A 7.57 xERA and 7.59 FIP point to sustained struggles, not bad luck. Add in a very low strikeout rate, and you have a pitcher who is relying heavily on contact, dangerous against a Mets lineup still readily capable of producing runs in bunches. With a clear edge on the mound, this is a spot where New York can create separation. Play it on the run line.
