Kansas City Royals vs The Athletics Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 04/29/26

The Athletics continue to hold down the top spot in a weak American League West, but cracks are starting to show after losing the first game of the series against the Kansas City Royals. The Athletics have lost 3 of their last 5 games, while the Royals are on a 4-game winning streak. It also won’t get any easier for the Athletics in this one, as they face Michael Wacha.

Wacha had his first bad start of the year last time out against the Baltimore Orioles, giving up 6 earned runs over 5.1 innings. Wacha entered that game with a 1.00 ERA through 4 starts, before it ballooned to 2.51. It is obvious that Wacha wasn’t going to keep up that ERA pace over the entire season, but his xERA paints him in an even worse light at 4.61.

The Athletics send Luis Severino to the mound, as the right-hander looked like his old self in his most recent start, giving up just one earned run over 6.2 innings. Severino is the picture of inconsistency right now for the Athletics, owning 3 quality starts with 2 or fewer earned runs, and 3 starts with over 4 earned runs. The Athletics will need the former version to show up for at least some of the game to have a chance. The Athletics know they are quickly spiraling out of the top spot in the AL West, and I think they bounce back here with a win over the Royals to end their hot streak.
