Miami Marlins vs Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 04/27/26

I know, you might ask what am I thinking? The Miami Marlins send Chris Paddack to the mound, a winless arm with an ERA north of 6, into Chavez Ravine against the defending champions, who counter with ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Add in the Dodgers current pristine form, and the expectation is that the Fish should get clobbered. However, allow me to remind everyone here that the Marlins are just 2 games under .500 and a competent baseball team. It is also only April, this price is simply outrageous.

Oddsmakers are fully aware of Yamamoto’s presence and the Dodgers’ dominance, and that is baked fully into this price. However, it’s overkill. The Marlins are being priced like the 2025 Colorado Rockies in August when meanwhile this is a team that already beat the Reds in a series and has been competitive against some of the heavyweights that the Majors has to offer, including the Braves and Yankees. This is not about wagering on whether Miami is the better team, it’s about extracting the value from a spot where Miami is far more likely to be competitive than the price predicates. If we look past the starters, the Fish actually have the better bullpen statistically speaking, at the moment. This includes a over a full half-run better ERA and a bullpen WHIP that matches the Dodgers (1.26 – 1.25). Paddack won’t be going deep, that’s for sure (He has only gone more than 5 innings once in five starts this season), but if Yamamoto gets pulled early, suddenly the huge implied edge evaporates. This is especially true if the Marlins are in striking distance. Offensively, the Marlins and Dodgers are comparable in total hits and both parties also average over 4 runs per game. Yes, the Dodgers are scary but the Marlins aren’t bad and there is no way that Miami should be this big of a ‘dog. Back the Marlins.
