Yankees vs Astros Pickswise Expert Predictions

Money Line Pick
NY Yankees Win(-140)

The New York Yankees will be looking for a series sweep against a struggling Astros team while also chasing their ninth straight win as they hand the ball to Luis Gil. On the season, Gil is 1-1 with a 4.11 ERA and is coming off his strongest start of the year, tossing 6.1 scoreless innings against Boston while allowing just two hits and striking out two. Houston will counter with Spencer Arrighetti, who has looked sharp through two starts, going 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA over 11 innings while recording 13 strikeouts.

Houston hasn’t been terrible offensively, hitting .233 and averaging 4.2 runs per game over their last 10 matchups. However, the Yankees offense has been noticeably better, hitting .268 and averaging 6.5 runs per game in that span. One of the biggest concerns for Houston remains the bullpen. The Astros enter with the worst bullpen ERA in baseball at 6.19, while the Yankees sit at a more respectable 4.00. Arrighetti has the talent to keep New York in check early, but Houston’s ability to close games late is a major concern. The Yankees are also starting to get production throughout the lineup. Jose Caballero is hitting .417 over his last six games, while Jazz Chisholm is starting to heat up as well, batting .350 over his last five. That added depth helps ease pressure on sluggers like Ben Rice and Aaron Judge. Even though Judge has struggled this season, he always remains a constant threat every time he steps to the plate. I expect New York to stay patient early, elevate Arrighetti’s pitch count, and capitalize against a shaky and tired Astros bullpen.
