Money Line Prediction

The Yankees are supposed to be the best team in the American League. I don’t agree with that assessment but that is what the futures markets are telling us. They are heading into Sunday looking to snap a three-game losing streak. Oddly it is the hitting, not the pitching that has been dragging the team down. They were just shutout by Tampa yesterday too.

After getting swept by Boston, Tampa has rebounded to take the first two games of their series against New York. They were underdogs in both, showing that even a World Series appearance is not enough to get respect in the marketplace. Austin Meadows is off to a hot start at the plate and Randy Arozarena is showing he might be legit. If these teams find enough offense they are going to be tough to beat.

The pitching matchup for the series finale on Sunday is Jordan Montgomery for the Yankees vs. TBD for the Rays. That is a common occurrence with how they like to run their pitching staff. If I had to guess it will be Michael Wacha who was anything but good in his first start of the season against Boston. Montgomery was really good in his only start this season, with no ER over six innings against the Orioles. I like his stuff to play in this one but even more, I am looking to fade Wacha. Tampa takes a flier on arms all the time but they don’t always work out.

Take New York.

Game Totals Prediction

Even though the Yankees’ bats have been quiet to start the season, and they just got shut out by Tampa, I am leaning to the over here. New York is eventually going to get those bats going and they have so much power throughout the lineup. Also, even though Montgomery looked good in the opener the Rays are going to make him work. The shutout win over New York yesterday was the first under in a Tampa game since the season opener. If we are getting Wacha on the hill for the Rays that will help things out that much more. His lone start for Tampa was an easy over with a total of 13 runs scored.

Take the over.
