New York Yankees vs Texas Rangers Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 04/28/26

The New York Yankees opened their series against the Texas Rangers with a 4-2 victory, fueled by a 2-run homer from Ben Rice, followed by a solo blast from Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm. The Yankees will look to carry another strong pitching performance into Game 2 as they send Cameron Schlittler to the mound who enters with a 3-1 record, 1.77 ERA, and a 0.73 WHIP through 6 starts. For Texas, they’ll send Jacob deGrom to the mound who is 2-0, 2.13 ERA, and a 1.07 WHIP this season. 

Both starting pitchers have been excellent, and another quality outing from each side would not be surprising. While the Yankees hold the edge offensively with a .884 OPS and averaging 6.1 runs per game in their last 14 matchups, while the Rangers have a .708 OPS and are averaging 4 runs per game in that same span. Last night we saw how strong the Rangers bullpen is as they pitched three scoreless innings, and they now own a league-best 2.78 ERA. While runs will be tough to come by, the Yankees will need to find a way to get to deGrom early. In his career, deGrom is 2-4 with a 3.14 ERA through eight starts. At the end of the day, the Yankees have the edge offensively while the Rangers have the slight edge on the mound. I think New York will score just enough runs against deGrom and win a low-scoring battle.
